has anyone got any experience with the Felston delay device? Does it degrade the audio signal or have any adverse affects on sound quality?

I have been thinking about buying one of these to 'pull apart'. From what I can gather they seem to know what they are doing and the delayed signal is reclocked so I suspect it is probably a good unit, hence my interest but I have no first hand knowledge here. Looks well made though. Would be interested in any first hand results.

    Hi there,

I hope this is ok, since I work for Felston (mods please delete this if there's any problem of course). But I'd like to offer an answer... ;)

The S/PDIF signal is read and stored in memory on a bit-by-bit basis, i.e. no interpretion or conversion of the signal is performed. After the required delay has passed, the bits are transmitted back out exactly unchanged. The signal is also reclocked by a good quality S/PDIF receiver IC, the Cirrus Logic CS8416, to counter any possible issues with jitter. So there is no degradation in audio quality at all, thanks to the completely digital nature of the system.

    Cheers,
    James

    Hello James

You do realise your not going to stop Nick ripping a DD540 apart - he's probably even more intent on getting inside one of your delays now :)

    Best regards

    Joe

LOL! Good to hear from you Joe!

Nic's extremely welcome TBH! As an engineer, it's flattering to have someone else want to take a look inside (as long as they buy one first of course!) Oh, but it would invalidate the warranty, so best not to break it, hehe!

    Cheers,
    James

I just had an update from James at Felston to say the first production units of the NEW DD540 will be available later this week.

    Best regards

    Hello Diabolik

I'll talk to James at Felston - I'm not sure if a Power Buy fits with his marketing plans or not.

    Best regards

    Joe
