Have you downloaded all updates available from Microsoft Windows Updates - You need to install an update specifically for the X-Box 360, if you have a dodgy copy of MCE you won't be able to get those updates though. After that, I think you run the programme while the 360 is on, and then your 360 or something gives you a code that you need to type into the pc (or vice-versa, i can't remember).

Sorry, that's all very vague and probably no help at all, it's that long since I had to do it now!! :suicide:

yes i did all that, and even got the code part done , it all seems like its going along perfectly and all of a sudden it says cannot find mce pc and vice versa pc cant find xbox, gonna do another full format and this time leave all my software off, just keep mce and all updates on, this is a sp2 mce all up to date. i can connect to live but cannot get the 2 to see each other, bit like me and the missus since i got 360 :D

Do you have any Firewalls or Antivirus software running on your PC? (hope so)

I had similar problems, i.e. XBox and PC not talking. I resorted to disabling Norton while the Media software for XP was being installed. This got the two machines talking. Re-enabling it later forced it to auto-configure for the new software...

ok i still havin probs , i have now formatted again and this time i will not put any software on except the pc connect file from xbox, can i do this by just connecting the xbox directly to my pc (wired ) before conecting the router ?

The weird thing is that i sometimes get the same thing happening to me.

Now and again the 360 simply will not find my Media Centre PC. I switch off the 360 press the media button and it then works fine.

I have a dual boot system and depending on whether i run XP or mce i have to make sure that in the blade on the xbox that it recognisies the PC.

The xbox thinks it is connected to 2 PCs and i have to maually tell it which one to find and connect to.

check to see whether windows media connects first

I had a lot of problems with this also where I was trying to get a XP SP2 MCE to connect to the XBox 360, happened on both my main PC and my laptop.

Following an 'offer I could not refuse' I recently got a brand spanking new laptop and just for kicks tried it again and it worked first time without a problem at all.

Tried one of the other machines again and no luck.

I am now left wondering idly if its something to do with a machine that was XP, then SP1, then SP2 rather than a new SP2 build of XP that may have something that causes this problem?

This might sound stupid, but have you actually tried to just view some pictures on the 360 from your PC/Laptop (whatever).
When i was setting up Media Centre Extender on my XP laptop, i spent hours messing round with it. Re-installing it over and over again. But eventually i got to the point where the laptop said that the 360 was "allowed" to share files. But it seemed like it still wasn't working. If i tried the setup on the 360 it was as if it still wasn't connecting.
I was just about to give up when i was just messing around in the Media blade in the dashboard, i noticed that i could connect to it and view pictures.

When i ran the setup on the 360, it doesn't finish the setup but i still have access to pics and music.

Hope you get it working.

Are you using ICS (internet connection sharing) with any other device?? because i had this problem until i removed ICS off a pci wireless card for my laptop and put it on network bridge, after that it see`s the pc - 360 every time.
