I am on the verge of taking the leap from RPTV to Plasma. My budget is not huge, around about the £1,000 ish mark. So far I have seen the what appears to be an expectional deal on the TH-42PWD7BS from AV-Sales and this Plasma is probably the one I will go for. The RPTV I have at the moment is the 42WH18B (For sale now in the classifieds) and I am very happy with the quality of picture it produces, especially on DVDs. If anyone has gone from an RPTV to the TH-42PWD7 please could you let me know on how it compares and just let me know if you were impressed or disappointed? Thanks in advance.
I haven't gone from an RPTV to Plasma but I have just setup my PWD7 and I think it's brilliant. Sky+ through a Scart Terminal board looks excellent and last night I tried my new Panny S97 via scart and found the picture to be excellent too. I've just ordered a HDMI Terminal board so I can connect the DVD player via that and can't wait to see the difference, even thought I'm not unimpress now. All in All for the money you can't go wrong IMHO. BTW What deal are you getting for cause I got the Screen, 3 Years Warranty & a Scart board for £1275 all in I can't wait to get home and watch it
Thanks for the reply, where did you buy yours from? Did you have to pay extra for the wall mount or stand? This is the best deal I have seen so far:-
its a great deal, got mine from Av Sales when it was a bit more expensive......but it was still a great deal and this is even better!
I got mine from WebElectricals ( who were very polite and helpful on the phone ) and no I didn't get a stand but like I said I got the 3 year warranty and Scart Board. IMHO even though the warranty is no where near as comprehensive as AV-Sales this purchase was not expensive and I bought the extra boards and stand on the basis that is a year or two when HD is here then I might upgrade to the PW8. With a bit of look it might even take the same boards so I can reuse them and perhaps put the PWD7 in my bedroom
OMG !!!!! Webelectricals have reduced this Screen even more. I paid £1279 on Thursday last week and look at now Web Electricals PW7 Maybe I should get another one !!!
Thanks for the link Biglad! There must be someone outhere who has upgraded from a RPTV to a PWD with comments between the two on picture quality?
I can't fault your thinking. This is such an outrageously good price that the extra 2 years warranty is pretty much thrown in for free. You have obviously read your warranty. Does it cover on site repair or is it return to base? - Julian
Is there no one outhere who has upgraded from an RPTV to a Panny PWD? I have read through all the relative threads with interest but could not find comments on comparing RPTV to the PWD picture quality. I have only found peoples comments on what they prefer with respects to DLP and RPTV vs Plasma, but this doen't really help. Any peoples experience and advice on this would be greatly appreciated if they have done the same uprgade as I am about to do.
I have owned alot of tv's. crt tube and rptv, plasma and projectors. The pw7 will be outstanding in PQ if setup right. and in some ways will be better then a crt tube tv. It is far far better then the 28" widescreen JVC crt in bedroom and that is only 1 year old.
I went from a 32" Sony Wega to the 42PWD7 a couple of weeks ago and with my 2 video sources connected via component the picture is stunning !! Buy with confidence from AV-Sales, I was really impressed by them & my brother is just about to take advantage of the current price drop too Chris
Thanks Chris, I know I had already made my mind up on this screen but you never know someone may of had a bad experience but so far so good. Looks like Monday will probably be the day I take the Plasma leap.
TBH i have no idea what the warranty is like as I haven't got it through yet but I know it's parts and labour. For the price it's a massive bonus like you said. I don't think it's going to be in line with the warranty av-sales do but it should get it mended if it brakes
