It's taken me a while to sort through and process pics from recent trip to Japan, but here for your viewing pleasure (possibly!) are a few of my favs, with more on Flickr.
Blossoms in Sapporo by Thumpermawer, on Flickr
We managed to time our trip to coincide with the blossom in northern Japan, and can confirm that Sapporo was beautiful.

While in Sapporo we took advantage of visiting the Nikka Bar, which has various bottles not available anywhere else. It wasn't cheap, but I would strongly recommended whisky lovers make a visit.

At bloody last!
Released today! Just stumbled on it by accident as, like all Warner Archive releases, it just sneaked out without much fanfare.
Despite being one of the most popular musicals of all time, it has taken forever for this to appear on Blu-Ray. Apparently the reason for the delay was that the original negative was severely damaged back in the 1970s and all current DVD, broadcast and streaming versions have been based on an interpositive created in the mid-'90s which gathered together elements of variable quality from a variety of sources to generate that interpositive, with resulting variations in quality from scene to scene and far from accurate colour rendition.
For almost 25 years this interpositive was believed to be the best available print, but after examining it Warner decided it was not up to scratch for a Blu-Ray release. However, recently another interpositive was found that turned...

OK - new game!
This was inspired by this morning's cinema viewing of '2001: A Space Odyssey' and my childhood memories of my first viewing of the film.
Name five films that totally surprised you. These can be films that you expected not to like, or that you had no high expectations of, or simply films that you knew nothing about before seeing them, but came away from thoroughly impressed. Reasons would be nice as well, as opposed to simply a list.
Here are mine.
I was a child and started seeing all this stuff on TV and in the newspapers about this new film with this car that had machine guns and an ejector seat and all sorts of other cool stuff. I had no idea who James Bond was and was unaware that this was his third screen outing, but I just had to see this car in action.
So one day when I was at my grandparents' house, I blagged the money from them to go watch 'Goldfinger' in the cinema just around the corner from where they lived. Two hours or so...
This batch includes two of the highlights from this trip. Seeing two giraffe fighting is something I have only ever seen in a TV documentary before, watching them swinging their heads at each other was breath taking. Then we had the privilege of watching an elephant having the time of his life in the waterhole and that got even better when his mate turned up! It was wonderful to watch them greet each other by extending their trunks so they just touched and then they did a “trunk shake” like a couple of guys in a gang shaking hands.
All comments welcome, thank you.

I am known as an habitual upgrader. Always trying to find a better setup than what I had.
Being a home cinema fan only made it worse.
You see, with home cinema it seems we are forced to Upgrade every couple of years at least and sometimes earlier. When it is not about new Audio formats such as Dolby Atmos or DTS:X then it is about new Video formats 4K, 8K etc. So the lovely top rated amp you bought 6 months ago is out of date after a very short period. it is a vicious circle.
I also noticed that my family were only using the TV sound and not using the "Super Duper" equipment that I had bought and installed. I myself was using it less myself and tended more to listening to Music. Somehow no matter how I tried I could not get the music to sound the way I wanted. It always left me lacking a bit.
With that in mind, I decided to say goodbye to surround sound and "Hello" to Stereo.
