It'd be surprising for it not to be released as Polanski adornes the film, that is especially after his recent success.
Quite a quirkie film this with some funny moments to savour (Jewish vampire, well he would be afraid of the cross :) ) and bits to be seen to have been nicked - homage'd my aunt - by other vampire outings.

Yeah, When they made Cul De Sac my dad filmed some of it on home movie (colour) I wrote to Polanski asking if he wanted to see it. I got back a nicce letter and lots of signed photos etc. I sent him a copy of the film and a letter in which I mentioned fearless VK and if he knew about a release dates for dvd. (this is about 18 months ago now) He repliedand said he had no idea when it would be released as it was out of his hands!!! Bummer eh:confused:

I think it's a great shame that people don't refer to this film by its other title - "Dance Of The Vampires". I think it gives a much better impression of what the film is actually like - it is genuinely chilling in one or two places, as well as very funny.

I'm very fond of this film. It's partly because I've always had a soft sport for Hammer horror, and it's a very cleverly observed pastiche, but it's also rather strikingly photographed - the ballroom-and-mirror scene is justly famous - and it's one of the very few films that actually succeeds in being an example of a genre while simultaneously sending up that genre. It does a far better job than, say, "Scream" in that respect.

Yeah, but what are all those glass balls about? Always baffled me, that (where they're stuck all over some chap's back).

Yeah I like this one. Very funny.
Have fond memories of watching it late at night as a kid.

Aren't they heated up glasses? I'm sure it's some kind of oriental new agey-type therapy. I've seen it on TV on one of the cable channels but I can't remember what it's supposed to cure. Looks like it's used for drawing something out through the skin though.

Being oriental (if it is) it's probably to help increase sexual labido or something like that:rolleyes:

They're caning TFVK on TCM on cable at the moment. Quite a nice looking widescreen print aswell.

Glass balls!! were they not somthing to do with warming up the blood. I know when Polanski was putting them on the proffessors back he held a flame in them first. Also the professor had just been frozen!

A blanket and a nice pot of coffee might be more effective...I was always curious as to where this treatment came from!

Oooh! I want! Anyone know whether the Portuguese subtitles are burned in or can they be switched off? And is it from Portugal or Brazil? If Brazil then you've got to be careful its not one of those quasi-legal, not-quite-pirate releases.

While we're on the subject of Polanski, what about "Knife in the Water", "Cul de Sac" and especially "Repulsion" on DVD - can anyone help?

The glass balls thing was a Victorian notion. It's supposed to draw toxins out through the skin. You warm the air inside the ball, then as it cools the air inside it contracts, which (assuming there's an airtight seal) creates suction against the skin.
