What's your favourite song introduction? ie. up to the point where vocals kick in. Or a similar timeframe for instrumental pieces.

My vote goes to the start of
Just in Lust by The Wildhearts

    as it just rocks. :)

The trouble is ,if you stop and think about it,you can produce 2 pages of A4.I enjoy all of the above, but trying to narrow it down to one is difficult.I'm still happy with 'smoke' so far though :smashin:

Trying to narrow it down is what makes it interesting though. I only noticed yesterday that whenever Just in Lust came on I kept restarting it over and over - hence the thread. :)

Have to admit that Walk is an interesting choice - you certainly know what's coming up for the rest of the song.

Just a couple that spring to mind: :D

Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond
Muse - New Born (up to and including where the guitar kicks in)
    Massive Attack - Angel
Porcupine Tree - Arriving Somewhere But Not Here
Deep Purple - Child In Time
Tool - Parabol (being the introduction to Parabola)
Iron Maiden - The Number Of The Beast
Dire Straits - Money For Nothing
Metallica - One, Master Of Puppets, Fade To Black

...if I had to pick one, then I would say Shine On. Makes the hairs stand up on the back of the neck every time ;)

Parabol leading into Parabola by Tool, any song thats split into two so it can have its own intro track has got to be awesome!

Mantra is the intro for Schism, in fact Lateralus doesn't really deserve a track listing considering the way most of the songs are linked (has anyone tried the "other" track orders, they're pretty good but don't seem to add anything IMO). The best intro on that album has to be Lateralus itself though. :)

The intro is 2:03 long before the vocal kicks in.....I just wish that this track had been included in the SACD of A Secret Wish. :(

    I like

    Radiohead - Paranoid android.

The reverse melody and the sound just dig with me and it needs to be cranked up!

    Many many more too.....

Not really my taste in music but at a barbie today they were playing a Pet Shop Boys collection. Some brilliant intros there to songs like Suburbia / Being Boring / Heart.

I was surprised at how many had lodged in my subconscience. Took me right back to late eighties London .
