I'm talking about the music only here, just to clear that up.

My favourite by a mile is the Blues Brothers, they are class, and I've seen two of their tribute bands in concert as well they rule!

I know it isn't out on DVD yet, but I have the Lord of the Rings soundtrack on CD and that is one of my favourite music from a movie. It is just stunning

Very occasionally a film score actually enhances the subject matter and contributes to the overall experience. My personal faves are The Untouchables, Jaws and The Thing.

Oh yeah, that reminds me of Any Given Sunday... doesn't take over LOTR but it is very good all the same.

    HI,

There are loads of excellent Movie soundtracks available. Some of my personal faves, include:

"Star Wars" - this is a seminal score, and still remains excellent to this day.

"My Neighbour Totoro" - the music really makes you appreciate the film even more.

"Betty Blue" - a memorable and distinctly French music score!

There are loads of others I like, but these three spring to mind the most!

I think Conan the Barbarian beats everything. I have yet to see any film music enhance a film such as this one. Truely awesome, in my opinion that is.:D A close second is Dune (1984).

As far as scores go, it has to be 'American Beauty'. The chilling, sad music helped make the movie, and soundtracks?

well i have to agree that forrest gump is up there.

    Ry Cooder,

    Wim Wenders' Paris Texas.

Hated it the first time I saw it in the cinema, but the score haunted me and now I love it.

Inexplicably it's only available on DVD in Australia or I believe there's a french language version.

John Barry's "Raise the Titanic". Awful film, beautiful score.

But my fave is the first I ever bought, back in 1976.. and the one which started me on a life's obsession of collecting film music, and that's 'Jaws'.

Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels!

Talking of enhancing the mood of the film with the music.....what about when he loses all his money in the card game, brilliant visuals, brilliant music..........just wish i had a bigger screen than 40" :(

American Beauty, ET, Shawshank Redemption, but best of all the Score to Magnolia which is absolutely amazing with film, but just as good as a stand alone piece of music - which very few scores are (Jaws being a prime example).

Also, its nice to see alot of people mentioning forest gump - beautufl score to that and even the period music on the album was great - but why no Jimi Hendrix - All along the watch tower? Huh?

Eric Serra's score for Nikita. My wife had her head down for a lot of the film after the first scene, so she noticed the music a lot more than usual! I still find it very moving.

The Italian Job, music that suits the film down the ground.

At the moment John Williams' beautiful score for Attack Of The Clones is rarely out of my CD player. It's certainly one of my all time favourites.

I also love Howard Shore's brooding score for Se7en.

Oh yes..how could i forget Superman: The Movie from JW.Still gives me goosebumps to this day:)

Riz Ortoloni's orchestral themes in Cannibal Holocaust. The synth thank-gawd-it's-the-end-of-the-seventies bits are less good, though!
