I have 'grown up' in hifi terms to switch off equaliser settings, push the 'Source Direct' button to get the purest sound possible.

I've had my ipod about a month now and don't know if it is because I am realising that MP3 is not as 'dynamic' but I do prefer the Electronic Equaliser setting on my headphones, in the car(FM Modulator) and hifi line out?

Goes against my instincts but does anyone else like the different equaliser presets?

That's a very good question. I also find that the un-enhanced sound of my iPod is a bit, well, flat really. As such I have also felt the need to enable the equalizer. My preferred setting is "Hip-Hop", which is odd seeing as I listen to very little music in that particular genre (mostly I tend to prefer the likes of Orbital, New Order, Radiohead etc...). Most of the other settings seem pretty arbitrary to me as well!

Anyway, if you want a more dynamic sound, give "Hip-Hop" a go.

.....or delimit the volume and get a decent pair of headphones for them.

Agreed but I have never used the ones it came with. I had already got the Sony MDR-EX71 buds which are not know for their flatness anyway!

Eq off and I use either

    PCX250's (flying / trains etc)
    MDR-EX 71's for everything else

Oh, and I used goPod to remove the EU volume restriction. :)

I have all Eq turned off and use Sennheiser PX200 Headphones. You get far more battery life with the Eq turned off.
