What, in your opinion, is the best british album ever?
I (personally) feel it's "in it for the money" by Supergrass, possiblly Englands most underated band.

For me, it would be one of the following:

    Coldplay - Parachutes
    Radiohead - The Bends
Embrace - The Good Will Out
Queen - A Kind of Magic
    James - Laid
The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead
The Sundays - Static & Silence
    Wonderstuff - Never Loved Elvis
    Oasis - Definitely Maybe
    Stereophonics - Word Gets Around
    Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells
The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses
Depeche Mode - Songs of Faith and Devotion

I do love Supergrass, but there are just too many better albums (that I listen to more frequently) for me to include them in my own list :)

Greatest album of all time by a UK act has to be -

Ghost In The Machine - The Police

Also have to say that Songs of Faith & Devotion by Depeche Mode is another fine album.

    My own personal favs....

    Massive Attack - Blue Lines.....................

The Wild Bunch & Bristol Sound..........total coolness....

Goldie - Timeless.....Emotional, moody & damn right essential...
    (thanks Rob Playford)

    Pink Floyd.............Pulse / DSOTM

ABC - The Lexicon Of Love...

Imagination - Imagination Gold.(Ashley Ingram - cool personified)

Perhaps slanting more to the 80's onwards (except PF)
but, they have given me hours of joy, emotion & euphoria.

    Adzman.

    PS......Best Album Of All Time?...........hmmmmmmmmmmm...

Oh no not Diamond dogs, thats not right., I dont believe you meant to say that now did you.

Got to be Ziggy Stardust or Hunky Dory.

Pink Floyd....got to be Dark Side of a Spoon or Wish you were here.

Whats wrong with Stone Roses self titled album.

    No ones mentioned the Beatles.

Also isnt Nursery Crymes more English than Lamb Lies down in America, its got a croquet mallet on the front.....do people still play that?

Excuse me, but read the second reply on this thread

Diamond Dogs was never my favourite, to my mind The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars, Hunky Dory and The Man Who Sold The World were all a lot stronger.

Always hard to come up with answers to questions like this as there are far too many to have a real favourite or even a Top 10, but my most listened-to album would have to be Infected by The The - a work of genius in my opinion.

Aren't U2 Irish? I thought this was British albums?

Here's another one (since someone mentioned the hopeless Brothers In Arms) - Dire Straits by Dire Straits
Water of Love is still one of my all time fav songs.

U2 are always in the "International artist" category at the Brits.

But then again, if you can put a Swede in charge of England....

From some of your faves, have to agree that Idlewild "100 Broken Windows", The Smith's "The Queen Is Dead" deserved a mention!

But none of the Depeche Mode fans liked "Violator"?? :p That one's my fave DM album
    (edit was a bit'o'spell checking)
