Other than our very own monthly comp :D

OK what are your favourite photography sites?
You know the ones that truly inspire you to look at the world in an altogether different way, get up of ya arse and go take some photos.

For me it has to be ephotozine especially the readers gallery, professional and amateur are all involved, and simply being able to see other peoples shots (without having to first click on a link) is a blessing, the only problem I have is that folk are uploading quicker than I can view them
    Well recommended

Fred miranda Is mine at the mo. Love the layout of the site (prefer black backgrounds, seem kinder on the eyes) The advice is great and the photo comp there is mind blowing. Not dare enter it:laugh:

Gotta agree about Epz. Been a member over there for nearly two years.

Your complaint is the same as mine though. The number of photos that get uploaded means that you're guaranteed to miss some absolute crackers. The price of success I suppose!

    my favorite is in-public.com

some cracking photo's on there all based around 'street' photography.

I'd love to be able to have the time to take photo's like some of those on there.

    Holy Moly John
Just been checking out some of the most popular ones and they are scary  The pilots flying in low over the beach to land must surely be doing that as part of some sort of "look how low I can go" ego trip  Wouldn't have fancied being on the plane or the beach :suicide:

Ah yes....the famous St. Maarten in the Antilles...

Bit of a special place for Aircraft Photogs....some of the most spectacular pictures ever seen eh????

There are videos on the web of landings there, and people hanging on the fence behind the jet blast of 747's taking off.......

Just the place for the first AVForums Photo Section outing maybe....just a weekend.....anyone up for that..............OUCH, The Missus just wacked me.. :D :D :D

There are some great pics there John (in the all time favourites, the Air France plane, landing just after a beach - how can that photo be real? It's barely off the ground, and its landing gear isn't yet down - and it wasn't noted as an accident)

This isn't a dig at Steve (I'm sure you couldn't give a stuff what I think :))we're all different, but I find most of the street scene pics so dull.

    http://www.luminous-landscape.com/ great site

I honestly find photos of planes dull (sorry) street shots and life tell a story, paint a picture-very organic for me. Most of the great artistic photographers have shot such shots, are famous for such shots. When done right they convey so much and can be related to

So i've got to go with steve on this on .

The master of that style steve is Cartier Bresson. I don't know if you watched the doc on bbc 2 but he was a genius

You're going to love these steve http://www.peterfetterman.com/artists/cb/cb_sm.html

Some of the stuff on Fred miranda is incredible - i can spend hours just flicking through the images on there.

Another favourite of mine is http://www.filemagazine.com/ - lots of interesting images.

As a photographer and graphic designer I find that istockphoto.com is a great site for getting images and also for sharing my images with the world (and earning a little bit of cash!)

I totally agree with you regarding shots of life (inc street), and taking a 10 second look at that peter fetterman gallery, there are some great shots (I'll be going back to see more). I spent 5 minutes looking at the in-public site, and to my taste, the ones I saw were poor photos. Probably a lot of good ones I missed, but with all the good sites mentioned here, I moved on.

Did you take a look at the airliners site? It was just the unusual shots and skill of the photographer I liked.

The in-public site just appeals to me as they are shots taken which 'say' something, or evoke a feeling in the viewer. I liken it to the REM video of Everybody Hurts which studies facial expressions and without saying much tells you a little about the people in it.

When and if i win the phopto comp i will be setting a theme which will involve 'people' photographs

The feeling I got was 'these aren't very good'. I agree that photos of people are often the best. I'll go back and see if there's some portfolios I like more. The 2 I looked at had a lot of people with their head down, and covered (generally telling a simillar story), and other shots of people just walking past - couldn't see an expression on their face or in their actions.

Just had a look at the Nikon D70 sample shots in the dpreview site - like a lot of those.
