Les Claypool, and I'll fight anyone who disagrees

Seriously though, Flea will be a popular choice, but listen to the albums 'Frizzle Fry' and 'Sailing the seas of cheese' and Claypool gives a strong case.

I saw Primus support Rush, 2 of the best three pieces with 2 of the best bassists.

Technically probably Dann Glenn would wipe the floor with most people, not really my scene but I have to admire the skill.

With rock its best to have a great drummer/bass team and theres quite a few to choose from.

Surely any bass lists which don't mention Jaco Pastorius should be treated the same way as dimpled chads, and be discarded?

    This one's easy :)
Matt Freeman from Rancid is an amazing bass player. Much better live than recorded, he gets through the solo from "Maxwell Murders" twice in the same peiod of time!

No list of favourite bassists is complete without that geezer from Level 42..... but anyone who's heard Defunkt's Kim Clarke will agree that she deserves to be right up there. Brixton Academy 1992 - she was playing solos and basslines that would have had Mark King reaching for his pension book.... and I like Mark King.

i saw Stu Hamm play with Joe Satriani in Dublin a few years ago and the guy was incredible! he does this two handed thing where he plays arpeggios with his left hand and a melody/solo with his right and you would swear it was two instruments playing. the only time i've ever seen a bass solo get a standing ovation!
    Billy Sheehan's not bad either...

For his style of music, Steve Harris of Iron Maiden is pretty dynamic.

Difficult to fault Glenn Hughes (Trapeze, Deep Purple, Whitesnake, Black Sabbath, etc).

Lemmy is always good for a laugh !

I think Derek Smalls deserves kudos for playing that double-necked monster of his !!

Ah yes 'Back Door'. My very first introduction to Jazz rock in my early teens. Nobody I know has ever heard of them.
