In case anyone is interested, I just repaired a faulty Samsung LE40A656 TV that initially was reluctant to respond to the remote control and eventually was simply "stuck in standby". The cure was to replace 5 capacitors in the power supply. Full details with photos are in my latest "blog" but some moderators object to my linking to it so you'll have to find it yourself.

Basically, the job is very simple: remove rear panel. remove Power Supply Board; replace 5 capacitors with a soldering iron. If you have ANY Samsung TV I recommend replacing the PSU capacitors before they fail and possibly cause damage.

Sounds like the same issue that's affected numerous Samsung TVs in the past, and the main reason that I'd never buy one of their panels.

The TV seems otherwise well made and reliable. Sometimes "the devil you know" is a better choice. Replacing the capacitors is easy compared with most TVs.
