Faulty Japanese PS3 Repair

    i have a japanese ps3 that has stopped reading discs like many other peoples. Is there anything i can do with regards to getting a replacement from sony?

    The warranty doesn't apply in the UK. Only way is sending it back to whomever you got it from in the event they could take care of the warranty in Japan, but this of course would incur costs and effort. The person or company you bought it from may not be happy doing it either I guess.

    Alternatively trying to get it fixed in the UK by somebody, also incurring cost to you.

    It was the chance you took imported, the same chance I took and mine (touch wood) is still working.

    Drives can be purchased separately. The architecture of a PS3 should lend itself to be a product any competent PC repair tech could deal with. I would be looking at that option.:)

    You can try a place called GT Electronics. They have been mentioned several times in these forums and seem to have a good reputation. I don't know how much they charge though.
