Looking through CD shelf and hard drive and realised that a lot of the rock I own is fairly down beat; good for when a bit miffed with life but that isn't really very me right now.

Can anyone suggest some groups (past, present, whenever) that might be worth a demo? I'm often found listening to Deep Purple, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ACDC, Eric Clapton etc when it comes to rock and Lemon Jelly, Chicane, Electric 6 and loads of mashups on the more modern side.

Anyone help me out? I'm planning on spending my lunch hour in Virgin sometime this week.

Clutch - 'Pure Rock Fury' is pretty upbeat, heavy stuff - a favourite of mine.

Creed's album 'Weathered' is getting a bit of airplay chez moi.

Sugar - 'Copper Blue' is poppy rocky genius.

    Just a few ideas....

Also, new Super Furries album out today, much more like 'Radiator' than the more recent stuff. Rocky/poppy genius.....

That's spooky, the structure of your sentence must have had more effect than i thought.
If you're that good with everything you write down you should start a Cult, people will be chanting your mantras before they even know what they're doing :D

Not sure what you mean by upbeat rock ?? Are you saying Purple and Lynrd Skynrd stuff is downbeat ?? anything that takes your fancy in the recommended albums?

How about a bit of Led Zepplin, try Zepplin II for starters, try downloading a few tracks such as Rock and Roll and Whole lotta Love, see if that floats your boat,

or maybe Van Halen (self titled) or Guns and Roses (Appetite for destruction), the new album by the Darkness, maybe try The Datsuns or The Donnas alongside the originals AC/DC or how about The Foofighters (colour and the Shape) or queens of the Stone Age (Songs for the Deaf) or even Ash (Free all Angels). Aternatively music by the Vaselines, Minutemen. Sum 41 (does this look infected) is a bit of a laugh and what about The Sex Pistols (Never mind the ******...)

Tell me what you have tried and are trying and your opinions and then I can trim it down a bit

Bit less bluesy than purple, Bit less country than skynyrd I think. Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I'm going to have a look around now. Already got Led Zep 2.

Seen the Darkness live. I walked out. No, seriously! Was there to see Purple and Skynyrd, couldn't really compare although they were pretty good.

I'm going to wait until my probation on new job is over (wednesday) then buy a load and see what I think.

The Wildhearts - Earth Vs The Wildhearts. Classic pop rock at full throttle! Also try The Wildhearts 'PHUQ' album.

Jane's Addiction - any album, ideally 'Nothing's Shocking' (one of the most underated rock albums of all time) but 'Strays' is as good a place to start as any.

Your definition of Underrated must differ somewhat from mine. I can rarely recall reading anything about this album that is anythiing but positive. Who exactly is underrating it??.

It may not be as recognised as you would like, but even then I would say mostl rock fan's know and like this album.

Upbeat Rock albums I would recomend:

    Incubus - Morning View
    Soundgarden - Superunknown
Faith No More - The Real thing
    Alice In Chains - Dirt

    Gun - Swagger
Electric Soft Parade - Holes in The Wall
Sum41 - Does this look Infected.

All the above are worth getting, the top 4 are indespensible (IMO)

Apparently not, during the studio album Justin Hawkins performed naked to simulate the more exposed position he adopts in front of a crowd, he also needed someone to sit in the recording both with him.:D
