This is really bugging me now.

    Installed Far Cry, worked fine.

Installed Clone CD, Far Cry now reports I have cd/dvd emulation sw and to close it before starting the game.

Stopped sw, Far Cry still refuses to load, argh!!

Any suggestion how I close all the pertinent processes running clone cd to keep Far Cry happy??

Don't really want to have to un-install it as it's a great package in its own right.

I have CloneCD & Farcry installed, with no problems.Have you tried installing CloneCD first, and then installing F/C - i.e the reverse order of how you installed it.Just a thought,as that's the order I installed it in,and all was ok.FYI,both F/C & Clone are patched to the latest versions.

Just thinking about this further - when you stopped Clone - did you reboot? You may want to try stopping any Clone references loading on startup - go run>type "msconfig">startup, and uncheck any references to Clone or Eylaborate Bytes - apply, then restart.Start F/C,and see whether it works, now Clone has no processes running.

it depends whether you have the clonecd/dvd virtual drives enabled. i think by default it installs one. You will need to remove that and then the problem should go away.

Nearly everyone I have seen hit by this problem find they have to completely uninstall Clone CD.

The only other option is to install a no CD crack, this will be fine unless you want to play online.

I had to uninstal clonecd too. Didn't bother me too much as I hardly used it and I kinda see ubisofts point.

I hate rooting around for PCgame discs. They should let you permanently lock the games to your PC or something and allow you to install it on the HD.

    One reason I like steam.

Just download a no-cd crack? If you've bought the game then it can't really be illegal.

Whether its illegal or not is beside the point I don't want to have to apply some dodgey third party crack to play without scrabbling around for a CD.

Technically it is still illegal, and I agree there should be a way to lock it to your HD, I too hate having to use CDs to play games :(
