Hey I'm tryna decide between these 2 onkyo sets to connnect with my PS3....can this cheaper model accept the LPM from the PS3?

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...t_shr?_encoding=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&v=glance

or does it have to be this one thats more expensive and decodes true hd...

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0..._m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0FDZN3FQ5GSSZ0WWMT9E

Thanks!

Sam

Thanks, because I notice it says that the HDMI on the Onkyo HT-SR800 is only a pass through for video? ...so I was concerned if I connected my PS3 that I wouldnt get the audio from the HDMI connection....

btw - what does it mean when it says 1080p pass through? whats the difference?

Hi mate :)
Sorry :( your right,it does not do audio over HDMI.so totally useless with the PS3 then.
One review said it did  but clearly it does not.
"This would be a great system, but for one HUGE problem
Beware of this unit if you plan to use it as a home theatre system. It has HDMI inputs and outputs, BUT THEY DON'T PASS AUDIO!

Hm, so are their any 7.1 systems at that price range $400? That do HDMI audio/video that I can hook up the PS3? ...because it seems that the only system I could find that does that would be the Onkyo HT-SP908 7.1

Hi Guys,

I got a quick few questions at the moment I got a Denon DHT-550 which i have connected to the PS3 via optical.

when I decode DTS it says 1.5mbit and when I do PCM (BD casino Royale) I Get 4.5mbit.

now my question is how much mbit do you guys get with PCM (via HDMI 1.3) with your Onkyo amps?

how much of a difference in sound quality would it make? I'm thinking of moving onto the Onkyo HD range but not 100% sure yet.

!

Hi blackmac111 :)
For that price............i doubt it and would they be any good, anyhow! :(
Most go for a seperate receiver and add sub/speakers to it. :smashin:
The Onkyo HT-SP908 7.1 looks like the best bet if you have to go all-in-one.
Cheers mate. :)

:hiya:Hi Rom can i ask a question, when playing music via my ps3 to 605 the voices do not sound right sounds like my center speaker is in a box. Sending sound via hdmi the sound on games, dvds and bd is fine so the speakers are set up correct could it be a ps3 setting is not correct thanks.

Hi Lee. What are you sending? CD audio, MP3 etc? If it is a stereo source like CD then the PS3 should only be sending 2 channel PCM. If you are getting sound through your centre/surrounds then the onkyo is probably adding a DSP mode onto it. Try cycling through the modes with the right arrow near the bottom right of your remote to see which you prefer. Purists would probably select 'Direct' or 'Pure Audio' though ;)

Hi Rom,

Are there any reports of drop in PQ connecting PS3 to 605 via HDMI? I noticed some blocking on DVD copy of Revenge Of The Sith which I have never seen before when connecting directly to display?

Not seen any reports Andy. My ROTS (and other DVDs) look great upscaled on my HD DVD player and passed through the amp.

I have a US PS3 so it will only play Region 1 std DVDs. Will give some of my R1 discs a whirl in it and report back (I have only used the PS3 for BD).

Thanks for that Rom - have been having a play around with PS3 settings (Block Noise Reduction etc) since posting - better but still noticeable.

Hi does anyone know how the ps3 handles dolby digital with a divx film as when i press display it shows dolby digital but there is no dolby light on the amp.
Matt

Hi Matt,

How are you outputting your audio from PS3? Bitstream or LPCM? I'm no expert but this may have an effect if the PS3 is decoding onboard maybe?

Matt

For DD, it should be set to bitstream if you want your amp to decode - are you sure it's DD5.1 and not DD2.0 - that could be why your amp is not showing 6 channel:smashin:
