    hornydragon/MAW...... i need some help

i am considering the current offer by MAW for the PWD7. i was looking at the HD panel from Samsung, but have been having second thoughts. anyway if i was to order the PWD7 package from MAW what else would i need?

    current set up....

toshiba sd210e DVD, (more than willing to upgrade)
denon avr1802 receiver (again willing to upgrade)
    wharfedale/eltax 5.1 speakers..(will do for now)
samsung smt2100c ntl digibox.... only got scart output
    sony ps2
    pc with twin dvi output

    any input greatfully accepted

is the PWD7 the correct screen to for, with HD only a few months away?
its certainly within budget, i have around £1500 to £1600 to spend
or is it worth waiting for the series 8 panels to come out, even though they will be way over my budget?

    cheers....neil

Are you going to be useing HD when it comes out.
From what i've read, it's only a few demo trailers on PC and about 2 porno DVD's at the moment, although i could be wrong.
Also heard that the Sky HD channels will prob only be sport channels and 1 movie channel.
It will prob be a good 6 months to a year before there are loads of HD DVD's around.
I was going to go for the new Samsung SD model, untill i got a good price on my panny 435 and i have always liked the look of the panny plasmas.
But i doubt i will be watching anythink HD for a good couple of years.
I dont intend changing my DVD players for a while and there is no way i'm buying my entire dvd collection again, just to get HD and there is no way i'm giving Sky another £400, they get enough of my money as it is.....i'll wait untill they get more channel running and drop the price.

So there you go.......just my take on it.
If you need HD buy the Sammy, if you can do with out it and you dont mind upgradeing your TV in a couple of years time then go for the PWD7.

That prob help to add to the confusion your going through.....i was the same 3 days ago.. :suicide:

    Hi Neil
entirely understand your quandry. I am going thru the same thiught processes. One day the 2.5k for the Panny seem the only option and other days I look at the price of the PE50's or less and think that would be absolutely fine for 2 to 3 yrs. I think Sky HD will very pricey for couple years minimum. What I really wanted to ask was whether you have seen an HD demo. Saw one in John Lewis on the 42Pv500 and the PQ was awesome. I think that spoilt my thought processes and steered me towards HD ready.
    Good hunting

what you will need in addition to the package from MAW is a DVi board for PC, a new AV reciver with component switching DVD with component out a PS2 component lead (check serial number as very early models have some issues with component) then i would say a JS RGB>YUV converter for TV cable box then feed DVD, TV and PS to AMP Denon 2105 etc is ideal (perhaps new Onkyo) and away you go

    hi hornydragon
is this what you are suggesting?

ps2 via component to av amp
dvd via component to av amp
    ntl connected to JS RGB>YUV
JS RGB>YUV via component to av amp

av amp via component to pwd7
pc connected to optional dvi board in pwd7

    Hi mep

cheers for the pic, does the JS improve the picture quality on sky a lot or does it depend on the chanel?

i have seen both the sammy HD and the pv500 showing the usual HD demo's in comet, and i was very impressed, but im not sure if the extra cost is justified. the current HD screens all seem to have some niggling faults, so im seriously considering waiting for next generation of screens to come out

It does it improve it a lot...you will still get some bad channels with low bit rate but many channels are near dvd quality

i know this will be in the wrong section but can you recommend a decent component swiching av receiver and a dvd with component output. no more than £300 for both though

there is, vcr1/vcr2/dvd/tv. i believe these are pairable with the components. i.e. in a menu you set which video goes with which audio.

will these optical inputs be directly linked to the component inputs or do they have to assigned?
