    Gordon, (or anyone else who knows)
    Could you answer the question I posed in the thread (not mine) titled 'Do Plasma displays need progressive scan DVD player'?
    Many thanks.

    Don't worry Elliot has covered it all.....

    The only thing I would add is that as Elliot has sort of implied all DVD players are not created equal. There is more to it than whether a device is component out ot even progressive component out. Even using the same chipeset for de-interlacing is no guarantee of the same picture quality. Just look at the Denon DVD2800 and the FMJ27 from Arcam to see what I mean.

    Using a good off board video processor may even prove more suited to the Plasma if you watch alot of off air broadcasts or LD or VCR as that will lbe able to do a similar trick for those as well as your DVD...

    Hope this is of use,

    Gordon...
    actually not on my day off but working...alot...!

    Thanks for the replies;

    Great...more things to spend money on!

    Gordon do you have any experience of the Philips SA962? Think it has something called DCDi.

    I have not played with one of those. DCDi is a feature of the Sage chipset. This is used in Faroudja video processors and many prog scan dvd players. It, along with the Silicon Image SIL503/504 chipset are good. It isn't a guarantee of good picture quality though. I've seen a DVD player that used this chipset that was great for its asking price of £250 but which wasn't a "great" picture if you know what I mean.
