What LCD screen would you buy if you had to buy now for up to £1100 ??

I would go for the 42" SHARP XD1EA for about £880 or the Sony 40W2000 for £850.

I am in this situation (I don't have to buy it now but I want to buy it now :D)

40D3000 without a doubt. It may not be 1080p, but it doesn't seem to have any glaring faults, and I'm sure the 10-bit panel and processing will help take it a step above the rest.
Indeed I am going to go for the 40D3000. After weighing up all the pros (picture quality on SD) and cons (no 1080p), considering that 90% of my viewing will be at SD and my viewing distance is at least 10ft then this is the one for me.

The D3000 is on sale at RW with a free DVD recorder and it's £50.99 under your £1100.
