finaly sat down with G/F to watch a film together last night. She noticed the fan noise and mentioned it once I think.

Problem is, it affected my viewing cos I was worried she was going to come out with the old 'you spent so much on a barco and pc etc and you can still hear the fan, told you a tiny little LCD would have been a better buy!' type comment!

I'm dreading watching Chocolat with her cos it's bound to be quieter than Rock Star!

Hows the soak testing comming along Roland, I may have to invest!

Right this is where I'm at with the fan mods.

I have some fans which are quieter AND shift more air than the standard so that knocks it down a stage.

By pulling down the speed of the fans we can get the projector to almost silent. but we have to get it to a point when the projector is not constanly varrying in temperature or the convergence and focus will start going off.

I also want to build in a fail safe so that if the projector does start to build in temp then a boost kicks in.

The reall killer is that if you slow a fan down too much it will just plain stop. The Barco's do not get feed back from the fan and I don't want any cooking going on. So I want to make sure that this side of it is working correctly in Reading before I come up to you.

I recon the mod including all the parts will come out at about £150
There will be some travel costs too but I'm often up that way (ish)

Get all your upgrading done in the next 6 months or I think we'll see the "How devious have you been" thread resurrected!!

Only kidding really! Just wait 'till you're in Nic Rhodes' situation with the patter of tiny feet, that really does put the cat amonst the pigeons ;)

PS Good excuse for CRT on the ceiling though :D

Yes, you need to get it right, esp if on some of your further flung pj's! Sounds like you're getting somewhere though.

I'll definately be interested, How many could you do a day? Might be worth a few of us getting together and arranging for you to do a few in a day, cut down on your wasted travel time!

Keep me posted how it's going!

    Thanks

    Nick

Aaaaaaaaaaaah, the questions and comments routine. My favourite.:)
I take it you get the fall-asleep-in-a-really-good-film-syndrome, and the 'What does that mean?' question in the middle off the Who Dunnit moment and so on.:D
Many joys of that type to come.

My personal favourite is when she's been asleep through the whole of the most complicated film going and at the end credits she wakes up and asks 'What happened?'.

Or how about when she asks to watch a film, falls asleep as the loading tray is closing and (this is the weird bit) wakes up just before the end credits roll!!! Then says.....'that was good'!!!

Good news about the quiet fan mod. It does get a bit noisey sometimes. Drowns out the sound of the PC though, Does it work on those as well?? ;) Keep us posted.

Ive read some reports of people creating S-Bend pipes from fan in/outlets, this reduces noise too but this was for cases with 4 fans in them (v noisy)

Might be irelivent but you never know :)
