    Dear All,

I'm currently using a Paradigm PS 1000 and am pretty happy with it, howeve as usual the upgrade bug has bitten again!!

    Which would be the improvement:

    1. Another PS 1000, obviously making two in the room
    or
    2. Start from scratch and buy a new sub.

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Cheers all

    Glenn

The answer depends on how much you are willing to spend. A second sub will make it easier to obtain high volume levels and there are other benefits too. The downside is that they can be difficult to integrate successfully and if you cannot place them in their optimum positions there is a risk that the bass will end up worse.

IMHO it is probably preferable to sell your existing sub and buy a different single sub of higher quality but that may be a more expensive route.

Godfather is selling a Velodyne CHT-15 for £450 ono and I believe that selling your existing sub and buying something like that would give you a far better return for your money even though it would cost more.

I would say buy a second PS1000, As you can pick them up for around £120-£150 it wouldn't take much outlay. then If you did find that you had problems trying to integrate two sub. then sell the pair and go for a better sub.

    A CHT15 would also make a good upgrade. :)

Some obvious questions spring to mind where subwoofer suggestions are requested on the forum:

20 Questions to ask yourself before considering a subwoofer change or purchase.

All questions must be answered!

    You may start...NOW!

    1) Are you personally bothered by sub size, finish & appearance?

    2) Is Wife/Mother/Girlfriend Acceptance Factor a problem or do you have a free hand in the HT/ listening room?

    3) What is your aproximate spending ceiling? Flexible? Or NO WAY?!!

    4) Room size? Any oddities? Open plan or double height? Headphones make more sense in your phone box sized room?

    5) Any physical limitations on the position of the sub(s)?

    5) Is HT film or stereo music your highest priority? Or are both equally important?

    6) Do you like LOUD or prefer moderate sound levels?

    7) Interested and experienced in DIY? Or are do they warn other customers over the tannoy when you visit B&Q?

    8) Are you interested in second hand purchases?

    9) Flat dweller or detached rural?

    10) Realistic system matching? Budget or high end?

    11) Which main & other speakers will the new sub work with?

    12) Is wood veneer or colour matching important?

    13) Local shop demo important or buy blind on forum recommendation?

    14) "British Empire Made" is important on the label?

    15) Reflex or infinite baffle philosophy important to you? Er..what was that question again?

    16) Do you have maker loyalties and preferences? KEF, SVS, Velo, B&W, Yammy, Wilson etc.? Why?

    17) Any particular room problems presently? Boomy or bassless?

    18) What are you expecting from a change of sub (or increasing the number of subs) that you simply don't get with your present sub?

    19) Are you really dissatisfied or just bored by your present bass?

    20) Better speakers/ amp/receiver make far more sense than a better sub at the moment?

    21) Low and/or high level connections important in your subwoofer purchase?

    Etc. etc.
