    Right, start rant:

We took delivery of two new beds for the kids this morning, a member of family is having my sons old bed, so just my daughters to dispose of. Rather than taking it to the recycling centre, I thought I'd put it up for free on a couple of classified pages on Facebook.
The post started with: ***FREE Bed and Mattress**** must be collected before 12pm today!

I've had people ask "how much is this?", "can you deliver?" And my favourite "Can you hold this until Sunday?"

What on earth is wrong with these people?!

I finally arranged for somebody to collect between 11:45am - 12:00pm, they've still not turned up, not even a message!
I quickly arranged with someone else from the "waiting list" who said "I only need the frame, does it come apart as I only have a small car?"

Despite me stipulating it's already dismantled and must go together!

Again, I ask the question; what the bloody hell is wrong with these people??!!

    Rant over

I feel your pain... but it's not just Facebook..

The last couple of things I've sold on eBay have stated "No Buy It Now" and "UK Only".
I lost count of the "will you take £xx for a quick sale" and "will you ship to xxx country" messages I received.

    READ THE DESCRIPTION!!!!!!!

    I'll take it!

Can you deliver and I can pay cash. I trust it is in one piece.

    I live in Russia.

I'm assuming I'll have to pay some sort of customs duty to you upfront by wester union?
    If so, that's fine :)

Sadly its not just confined to Facebook. I'm in the process of moving home and have had to get rid of loads of stuff, what you're saying rings true!

I has a job lot of old consoles - I stated will not split. I must've had 20 people offer for certain stuff, even down to single games.

I did have much better luck with Gumtree surprisingly, people actually read adverts.

    OP needs to chill.

if he just advertised in gumtree as a freebie it would have gone that day, or better yet phoned a charity that collects furniture for free, they are all over the country.

I need to chill? I've got better things to be doing wig my time than hanging around waiting for somebody to collect, that's why I stipulated a time frame only to be let down.
I was trying to help somebody out, I should have just taken the bed to the tip first thing this morning.

I've found that the problem with freecycle is; it takes quite a long time for a moderator to approve and then forward your post. I wanted it all out of the way this morning.

Not so much here. Those that do are VERY picky about what they'll take, and some even charge to collect.

Just put it out the front.
Don't put a 'free' sign on it though, put on a 'please do not touch' sign and it will be gone in minutes :smashin:

    Dave...

I feel your pain on this we have had similar problems when using Gumtree.

However the person asking if they can take just the frame is not that bad, maybe when dealing with all the other idiots they seem that way. You may not be able to shift all of it and if you could get rid of the frame only then maybe that is better than nothing.

On that one I do not think there is any harm in asking.

Just breathe and remember your pressure points :)

If you've got better things to do then why offer it in the first place, you seem dazed and confused, all my Freecycle/Freegle posts are listed immediately, people ask questions all the time doesn't make them morons, if you don't ask you'll never know, what did you expect when you want someone to collect something within a few hours of posting....

The whole of the internet is full of Morons....tell us something we don't know.

I tried Freecycle in December when I wanted to get rid of a double bed. The ads didn't need approval, they went on straight away but I did have the same issues as OP. After two weeks I still had the bed .

Then I tried a different tactic. I re-posted the ad and just sent the same email to every enquiry:-

"First come, first served. Best to just call me when you're ready to collect to make sure it's still available. (Tel No.)"

I got rid of the bed the same day and in the next week, I cleared out other big stuff as well like a glass table, washing machine I hadn't used in two years, a faulty treadmill and an ancient metal workbench went in less than an hour of me posting it :).

The worst experience I have had with people is those on band web sites. At the mo we are after a singer, and the amount of people that start with major interest suddenly either can't commit despite their advert or response saying they are very committed.

Or you arrange a time to jam and they just don't show.

I have no problem with people saying, thanks for the interest but not my kinda thing, or if you have a family emergency and can't make it, maybe a quick text so we know you are not going to be there.

    It gets so frustrating!

Indeed. I posted about a couple of bookcases I wanted rid of and included the fact that they were white. One of the responses I got was "What colour are they?".

I ended up choosing the "winner" on the quality of their spelling, punctuation and grammar.

What annoys me about Freegle/Freecycle is when you're trying to communicate with someone to arrange a convenient time for them to pick up their new items and they don't get in touch for half a day. Show a bit of courtesy, please!

I had to go out so posted that it's still available, dismantled and wrapped up on the drive including my address on the post. I have arrived at home and can report that there's no bed on the drive! I also received a very nice thank you message through Facebook. My faith in Facebookers has now been restored :) (To a degree)

I always start out with the best intentions, thinking I'm doing my bit for society but end up seriously regretting it!
Yet I'll never learn and no doubt do something else to try and help someone which again, I'll regret.
