After buying my nice new widescreen a few months back,
ive been looking forward to watching F1 in widescreen.

Well much to my dissapointment the first few races
    were broadcast in 4:3 format.

Is this going to be the case for the whole season ?
or is it country specific , as it maybe the local TV stations
    that record the tv work.

Im not paying for that exclusive F1 channel
if its actually on air this year (havnt looked).

WS broadcasting will depend on the origination broadcaster, just like the footy on ITV. So there is more chance of WS signals as the tour comes to Europe. There is no more F1 pay per view that's why you are seeing more in car shots and the like.

Does it make much difference, it's only car racing after all.

They looked long and thin on my telly. I presumed I was watching it in the wrong aspect ratio....

F1 Digital + ( Bernie-Vision ) is no longer available, enhanced feeds supply network broadcasters since it's demise.
All F1 races are framed 4:3 regardless of host nation, F1 Digital + was 4:3 too.

I thought the F1 Constructors Association filmed all the races and supplied a video feed to the broadcasters. I guess they can only do 4:3.

Yep! FOCA do film the races.
Well, that was 100% the case until this season.
They used to fly the TV studios around the circuits in a Jumbo jet. Based at Biggin Hill iirc!? (Is that airfield big enough for a Jumbo?)

But I assumed when Bernie 1st canned the Pay TV part, and then later canned the TV part that that must mean a return to local tv companies doing the coverage.
