Big US race with 120000+ spectators in a marjet F1 is desperate to crack. They have a six car race due to technicalities and the fact that people can't agree that the long term future of F1 is more imnportant than scoring a few points this season!

:mad::mad::mad::mad: is how I'd be if it wasn't so :confused::confused::confused::confused:

Glad I didn't fly in form Mexico or Panama like two spectators did.

Refunds all round? I think they should, preferably from Michelin's pockets!

    shocking :thumbsdow

re the tyres though, we see this often in the BSB where a lack of telemetry from certain tracks can leave a certain french tyre company stranded. If they've not raced there recently they have to make a best guess, which obviously was wrong this time.

You have to feel sorry for all those folk who turned up to see a race, it's time for a big shakeup in the F1 world, too many egos getting in the way of common sense.

This just reinforces what a Joke F1 is nowadays...what a waste of everybody's time.

I feel especially sorry for those unfortunate enough to have travelled there!

Well I'm not sure but I think I heard that the teams were offering to race for no point whatsoever if they agreed to put a chicane in just so people could enjoy the race but that was rejected.
You can't really blame the teams for not putting their drivers at risk.

For Michelin, it's bad for their name but again they did the right thing in looking after the drivers' safety first and admitting a major problem.

The problem could have been fixed with a simple chicane, at least for the fans but the governing body seems determined to ruin F1.

    Agreed, it was a farce.

I *was* looking forward to hearing what Rubens had to say though, he didn't look happy....

then ITV strike again... "well, that's all we have time for folks..." after Shu's interview

What's the betting it was Ferrari who dug their heals in so ensuring a full safe race was never going to happen?

No winners from this sorry farce.

Can't blame ferrari, would the same events occurred had it been on the other foot and it was bridgestone with the problem and not michelin.... only 6 cars would have been affected and only 1 of the big teams.

They wanted to cripple ferrari and have bought in many rule changes to do it.... ferrari have struggled all season with their tyres and now it come back to bite the others hard.

If jordan hadn't gone back on their decision only ferrari would have been racing, wonder what would have happened then

    Good point, perhaps not.

However if say Ferrari were one of the Michelins I doubt it would have turned out the same way. Shui let slip the comment that his team told them to "go out and have fun..." - I thought that was a telling comment...PJ :)

The FIA is to blame here they are the governing body this could have been avoided easily, no one has gained anything from this race it was a sham.

I was very impressed with the US crowd if it were Silverstone the crowd would have teared the circuit apart!
I expect they all rushed off home to call there lawyers!! :D
Maybe thats not a bad thing as money seems to be the only concern in sport these days.

I am one avid F1 fan once again bitterly dissapointed.

The FIA are a bunch of clueless morons

over 300 replies in just over 5 hours on a motorsport forum that i frequent. What a complete and utter fiasco this is for the FIA to sort out. Their fault? Michelin's fault? Despite being banded about, i do not accept any blame to lie with Ferrari, ok so their intentions could have been less than honourable, but they stayed more or less neutral in their actions. This one will be an interesting one to follow.

Definitely the end of meesh-lan in F1 and could usher in the one tyre manufacturer a lot sooner than expected.

The only bits worth watching were Brundle trying to get a comment from Mrs Ecclestone (no relation to Dr Who) and Schumacher almost reducing the car count from 6 to 4! He needs agood slapping!

    What about when Brundle said

"If Michael jumps on the podium Iam personally going to thump him in the head"

    That had me :rotfl:

    Taken from Yahoo Sports....

"Nine of the 10 teams wanted a temporary chicane put in before the slingshot final banked corner to reduce speeds and lessen the huge forces on the rear left tyres.

Champions Ferrari and the governing International Automobile Federation (FIA) said no."

With a majority of that, they should have put the chicane in and saved face. They've shot themselves in the foot with this one.

    Richie.

Couldn't Michelin have brought over some new tyres as they must have known straight away there was a problem ?

Apparently they did bring new tyres which would have been fine but the officials wouldn't let them use them as it broke some rules about how many sets of tyres you are allowed over the course of a Grand Prix.

I wonder if it's a politcal storm brewing about the changes in rules on tyre allowances then ? They are only allowed one set for the race now aren't they ?

the tyres were excluded because of the rules. They would have been an unknown quantity for the drivers, had they been allowed, which could have been as dangerous as the defective ones.

Yes an attempt at cost saving and to put teams on more equal footings.

Ferrari didn't say no, they sat on the fence, and neither supported, nor opposed the chicane idea. The FIA could have pushed the chicane idea through if they wanted, but there were numerous other issues if this had taken place.

They actually tested the new tyres and they also failed.

correct - the barcelona speck tyres would have failed as well

inside sources say that michelin tried the chicane option knowing that the FIA would not allow it!! but it allowed them to get out of racing without an outright withdrawal
