Who says they are inept?
The problem is they can't pass the buck. It has always been the case that a countries FA chose how the places are awarded. We will not get a fifth place. I say that if you are not good enough to get 4th place, whether you are the current champions or not, you do not get a place. Although I do not think Everton will do as well as Liverpool would, they deserve the chance if they get 4th place.
For some reason I always thought that the previous year's winners got automatic qualification for the next year. Obviously not...
Yes I always assumed that the winners get automatic qualification, I know we did when we won it 2 years on the trot (had to get that one in!!)
They do in a sense. But it is very unusual for this situation to arise (holders not qualifying again via the league). UEFA will give the FA the maximum four spots. It's up to them who they send, 3 league and Liverpool or 4 league.
Personally speaking, there should be only one place (and the winners, blatterhead!) awarded for the European champions cup, sorry 'champions leauge'. As the title suggests, if you're not good enough to win your leauge, then you ain't good enough to be in it...........
All this second to fourth place malarkey has only succeeded in devaluing the competition no end.
I understand your point. But on the plus side, it has enabled access to much needed extra cash for many clubs on the verge of being great (Arsenal for example ).
And taken it away from Champions who have to qualify to get in
I can't see Liverpool winning it, so I don't think the situation will arise.
Not that Arsenal have done much with it............ Besides the downsides outweigh the plus many more times over. Even on the cash side all thats happened is the players have got richer, not that the football has got better. Some of (nearly all!) the leauge matches are a total waste of space.
