My copies of Speed and Coral Reef IMAX WMVHD DVDs have just turned up.

Started watching them on my PC, and finding my eyes are getting tired watching.

Running on a 21" monitor at 1280x960 (film letterboxed into 1280x720) at 85Hz

Also got it on other HDTV material - Harry Potter CoS and StarGate Atlantis.

Hopefully i won't get this when i show it on a projector (still waiting to get my projector once my house move is completed).

    Has anyone else experienced this?

OK, looks like it's just the 85Hz thats the problem...

Turned it down to 60Hz and movie playback is fine - though the desktop now shimmers something rotten,

Try 70, 60 is too slow.

If your monitor can handle 100hz you will probably find that much better.

Unfortunately at 1280x1024, my monitor will only go to 85Hz.

The 60Hz for the IMAX stuff seems to be the best for my eyes at the moment.

Will play more when I actually get a projection device capable of 720p

I'd be interested to know what refresh rates other people are using

Actually, I have just had a thought, you might like to give this a go and tell us how you get on.

Set your monitor back to 1024x768, and 100hz, try that and see if its any beter. While the picture will be downsized it will give you an idea of wether or not 100hz helps. If it does, and you want to use a monitor for watching some HD material you might consider buying a new one.

But anyway, it might be worth a try :)

I'm using 1024x768 on my dual monitor set-up, both screens are set to 100hz. My processor isn't quite up to most HD stuff at the moment, but the 720p material looks great like this.
