Watched this last night, very tame and could have been a TV movie. Zac Efron looks like Bundy in a few scenes. However he didn't capture the cold emotionless of Bundy as evidenced in the real footage of Bundy over the end titles.

I guess they were going for a likable character that would make the movie a did he or didn't he do it. Most would know his name and the fact he was one of the more prolific serial killers going in, so an odd choice really.

I actually thought Efron was the high point in capturing the manipulative nature of Bundy , be that at first with Liz , then the media, the courthouse and those that supported him. But yup spot on in that it really played out like a tv movie and lacked any tension. 6/10 is spot on.

I was quite looking forward to watching this but then I saw that the UK rights were unfortunately snagged by Sky (it's on Netflix elsewhere). Which means I'd need to pay for a Now TV cinema pass and for that all I'd be presented with is ultra compressed 720p with stereo sound. On Netflix it's in 4K.

Really unfortunate that Sky still exists.

The thing about Ted Bundy was that he was a very nice guy, as most people were happy to testify (and even the trial judge was 'taken' by him), but then there was all that serial raping and killing as well. Matthew Bright's 2002 Ted Bundy tells the story far better, focussing on the monster he was (and check out Bright's Red Riding Hood/Serial Killer spoof Freeway, too). Hampton Fancher's 1999 The Minus Man, with Owen Wilson, features a very black comedic serial killer only too happy to help those disenchanted with their lives to depart this world.

I was just gonna ask if it was worth a watch, I also just realised the director made one of my favourite doc's ever Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills.

Anthony Hopkins' Hannibal would take Efron's Ted Bundy for dinner with ease.

The cast and director are on record as saying the film was made to commemorate the victims, and to show the story from Liz’s perspective. Sadly the script and direction fail to portray the victims as anything more than a list of faceless names, nor do they manage to shed much light on Liz since she is apart from Bundy for most of the film. Crucially it doesn’t get into Bundy’s head at all, leaving him as an enigma. Both Psycho and Silence Of The Lambs allow the viewers to have some form of understanding for the motives (no matter how appalling) of their killers. Despite good work from Zac Efron, this film doesn’t, meaning that Bundy is portrayed as nothing more than some form of one-dimensional bogey man.

The other characters are nothing more than cyphers, although kudos to John Malkovich for being able to do so much with so little. His underplaying of the judge is, for me, the best performance in the film.

Overall a wasted opportunity, but I’m looking forward to watching the documentary to fill in the gaps.

Watched this last night and Cas has got the review spot on again imo.
Efron was very good but the film itself was a bit meh really.

Thought this was great. Terrific performances. The direction it took was deliberate and made sense. 7.5/10

Enfron stole the film which I thought could have been way better.. Bit of a letdown.
The Ted Bundy Tapes is a way better viewing for some of us hardcore fans of darkness.

Malkovich was super in he's five minutes.
      Bundy was a complex individual..
Too complex even for us to understand him. He had no beginning and no end.

      7/10 is fair think. :)

Not good at all really, yer Zac pulled a few facial expressions off, but the film seemed to glorify Ted.

Didn't go into to much detail.. Made Ted bundy come across like mary poppins

Watched it last night on Netflix.
Interesting but not gripping however it has kindled an interest in Bundy and we will be watching The Ted Bundy Tapes.

Can't understand the bad reviews, thought this was excellent and Efron superb. Loved the way the film almost had you thinking well maybe he is innocent. Beautifully made and kept my interest throughout. 8/10

      Just watched this.
I watched the tapes first on netflix.
I enjoyed the movie, but it kinda felt a shorter version of the tapes.
Disturbing but interesting viewing for sure.
Some great performances by Efron and Malkovich as noted.
It was good seeing some of the actual lines from the tapes playing out in the film.
