Hiya, I have just been down to my local Sony centre to make a side by side comparison of the 40W and the 40X, the first test I did was to see both sets playing HD, I was very impressed! both TV's looked superb and I couldnt notice any difference between each set, so thumbs up!! Then we moved onto the SD test which I thought the 40X would win as the EX engine is supposed to handle SD well, but I was extremely unimpressed with the quality of both TV's, the salesman pointed out that all the TV's in this small shop were running off just one sky box so a single source would give a better signal. The picture looked very pixalated and not very sharp, my existing 28" CRT is far better!
I so wanted to be blown away by the quality, I sold the idea to my wife based on the fact that the picture quality would be that much better, but I feel that the technology has a long way to go to make the most out of the SD signal and HD has a long way to go before it can be used as justification for buying a TV and for the TV companies to use HD as an advertising strategy is misleading.
I think I will be hanging on for the technology to catch up before I take the plunge,
Iain
