Hi, I have a really old 20gb Western Digital WD200 IDE hard drive which has alot of photos on it. I thought the contents would be hard to extract without going to pc world and paying a silly price. Anyway, after actually looking into it I read that you simply need a IDE/SATA to USB 2.0 lead with AC power but I read somewhere that if the drive was IDE then you didn't need the AC adapter. As i'm pretty clueless, can I just get the IDE to USB lead or do I need the IDE/SATA lead with AC adapter to power it? Thankyou.

As long as you get it from a reputable shop (i.e. not ebay) then anything that supports you drive's connector can generally be expected to work.

2.5" and 3.5" IDE drives use different connectors so that may be where the powered/unpowered distinction is coming in (for SATA only 2.5" drives can be USB powered), so make sure you get the right IDE connector.
