    I have a Yamaha A2 amp,with B&W 602,cc6 & 601 set up in the 5.1 mode.This amp has a setting for 2 more front speakers (7.1).

    1) What benefits if any would I gain from adding 2 more speakers to use this 7.1 set up.

    2) Could I place these speakers high on the side walls between front & back speakers
I know the manual says to provide higher & wider than the fronts.

    3) What sort of speakers would you suggest.....Small satellites ??

My room is approx 15' x 10' viewed lengthways

    Yamaha A2 Amp
    Denon 2500 DVD
    Panasonic Video
    B&W 602 Front
    B&W CC6 Centre
    B&W 601 Rear
    32" TV

If I remember rightly the two extra front channels were for use with the amps DSP modes. If Yamaha suggest placement as at the front and higher and wider, then that's where I'd put them. It's possible you may bugger up the front to rear pans if you have them at the side of your room. It's worth experimenting though!

Ideally the speakers you use would tonally match those that you have already. :)

Jase is correct, Yamaha's 7 channel DSP is not the normal 7.1 system- it's front surrounds- above and slightly towards the wall.

The outputs aren't very powerful (25W) so I would use sats if possible.

    Hello Dave.

I have this amp the fronts are used for DSP modes. The benefits
are that you can use the dsp better.

I go by the manual but there is nothing wrong to experiment with the position of the speakers.

I go for sat speakers becouse it is only 25 watts and remember they are only used for DSP modes.

    I hope I was a bit of a help
