Good afternoon. I have a Sony DCR-PC8. What I need are recommendations for an external mic which can be mounted on top of the camera using the shoe, and plugged into the camcorder via the MIC IN jack port. Hope this makes sense? (I'm a bit of novice to all of this as you might be able to tell!!).

I want a general multi-purpose mic, basically to boost and improve the sound quality.

Any recommendations would be gratefully received!

    Hi,
The Sennheiser range are pretty well thought of. The 300D model is well recomended for Dv cameras about £150 I think.
I used to have one and can confirm it worked well.
Not familiar with your camcorder so dont know if the above would look a little large on it.

Yep the Senn 300D is a favourite recommendation as it is a very good mic at a fairly good price.

A couple of threads asking the same recently Here & Here.

    Mark.

Thanks to you both for your advice. Yes, I wouldn't want a mic which is too unweildy mounted on my camcorder. I have noticed that keene.co.uk has a shop not too far, so I pop along and try a couple out.

    Cheers
