I have a Samsung HT-TZ215 Cinema System which has a usb port. I want to be able to play music through this port from my Maxtor one touch 500gb External Hard Drive. Unfortunately when i plug this into the usb port the dvd player doesnt recognise and says no files. When i use my 8gb flash drive in the same usb port it works. Any ideas to how i can overcome this??
    Cheers

yep, unless you back it up to a pc beforehand, then format.

i take it, the hard drive is formatted to NTFS at the moment?

yeh thats using the tools that came with the hard dive, but can you not just plug it into a pc,and format it from there as FAT32?
you could check seagates forums(they are one with maxtor):Maxtor OneTouch Products - Seagate Community Forums
    ,or try the computer forums here on AVForums:Hard Drives & Memory - RAM/Cards & Sticks - AVForums.com

dont think it can be done in vista, but any other OS would work fine for formatting.

EDIT: i see they recommend installing "Diskwizard" to format to FAT32 :
    http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/discwizard

"You will need to download/install DiskWizard for Windows onto a Windows system.
Then attach the drive to that system, run the DiskWizard software.
Then click on "Add New Disk", following the wizard that comes up telling it to delete the partition on the drive, then format Fat32.
If you have data on the drive you will need to back it up as this process will delete the partition and then reformat the drive.
