External hard drive not showing up?

I have a 80GB external HD that isn't recognised when I plug it into the PS3.
The little "thinking" circle appears in the top right as usual but then nothing.
I did put some content on it just to try but even then the PS3 doesn't see it.
Does it need to be formatted for the PS3 to see it,it was formatted as NTFS but would it work as FAT32 and how do you do that, easily :D

Small,

Has to be FAT32 then it will work fine, NTFS does not work.

Have a search on the forums here - there is another thread that has a little utility called fat32format attached to it. You run it in the command prompt telling it which drive to format, and you can format big drives that way
