    Hi,

Over te past few days my Western Digital hard drive has been whining every 15 or so minutes for about 3-5 seconds. Should i be worried?

I've had the HDD for abou 10 months, and dropped it about 1ft about 8 months ago but thought nothing of it as it's been fine since.

I am currently downloading a large file directly to the HDD, could this be the cause of the probem?, although i don't think so.

    Any help?

    Thanks

Clicking is usually what you usually associate with an on the way out drive. I had a WD drive that had a high pitched whine, but it was constant

This doesn't really sound like clicking, it is definatle a white and now appears to be random. I've got a replacement on the way.

My WD twin raptors always have a very high pitch whine and have never failed .... ever

That said, you should always have a backup .... learnt that the hard way  (my data disks got wiped by ... ummm ..... "user" error :rotfl:)
