    Hi

I am looking for an external hard drive. I reckon 120GB should be sufficient.

Plan to use it to record movies/data onto it and take it to a different computer.

What should i be looking for, memory size, best deal etc etc

    thanks in advance

The Lacie 250gb drives are pretty good, and good value too. There's plenty of drive sizes.

Consider an IcyBox USB2 external caddy and put and IDE drive in it, that's what I did.

Not in stock here but you can see what they look like.

Add a £70 200gb Drive and you're sorted. Added advantage is that you can fill up the disk off one PC then use that actual disk in the new one.

I know you think 120gb should be enough, but from experience I've found space disappears quite quickly!

    Mark.

The Maxtors are also good value, and reliable...200Gb for well under £200,plus Firewire and USB2.

I use a pair of 200Gb Maxtors for off-site backup - very happy with them so far.

it seems maxator is the favorite HDD. Having read a PC mag last night they recommended Iomega 250GB external which they found superior to Maxator 300GB external unit. (i think it was 300GB)

    Any experience with Iomega units?

Does it work out cheaper to buy an internal unit and a caddy?

    I've been using a Lacie USB2 drive from ebuyer.com. Worth a look.
