Do you guys go for fancy extension leads?

    With all my AV kit:
    - dvd player
    - Plasma
    - Tuner
    - Speakers & Sub
    - Amp
    - Cable decoder

I need a fair few sockets.

I'm currently usuing bog standard things I've put together myself from generic cabling and B&Q boxes.

Do you recommend buying the better, proper AV quality ones?

    And why?

whats the point of having decent kit and bog standard leads? its like having the engine of a skoda and putting into a farrari. The benefits, improved picture and sound quality and better conductors of infromation contained in the lead itself.

have a look at whathifi awards edition available 20th october. that will tell you everything you need to know. or just check out info on this forum and others like it!.

(ps i do not work for, or in any way connected to whathifi !!!)

    good luck !!!

Don't worry about it too much. I use Belkin Surgemaster Gold extensions which have 3m leads, are well built, have 7 sockets and cost about £30 each. :)

are you talking about extension leads or interconnects, scarts etc?

All my connections are top of the range. I'm asking about the actual power sockets where it connects into the mains power.

I think he is talking about the power leads. The thing is that the quality mains sockets will only improve your PQ etc if you have a problem with the mains supply. If the supply is clean then there is nothing to be filtered out to clean up the picture etc.
However, saying the above I use Belking Pure AV surge protectors because I don't want my expensive equipment being turned to toast if there is a lightning strick close to my home. The Pure AV sockets come with a lifetime unlimited equipment replacement guarentee that gives me peace of mind. However they don't come cheap selling at around £50 - £100 depending on where you get them from. However I got a great price of £35 from ebuyer a while back, but they do tend to change the price a lot so keep an eye on them if interested.
