I have my AV equipment located in a 19'' rack about 25 metres away from my cinema room. I want to locate a PS3 in the rack but that will be too far for the bluetooth handsets to work.

Is there any method for incresaing the range on the handsets?

I have plenty of Cat5 cables between the rack and cinema room if that would help.

I'm pretty sure there isn't any way to do that.

I've used my PS3 BD remote from about 15m away through 2 brick walls and the response was poor. The only solution I came up with was to put the PS3 in a room in the middle of my house and not in my home cinema which is at one end. I then cabled the PS3 to the AV rack about 5M away. The other big advantage is that I'm not bothered by the fan on the PS3 when I'm watching movies as it's next door.

    spot on

the bodies/governments that setup/agree to a standard(like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth) have strict rules regarding which frequency to use and what the maximun transmission power is for each standard

having said that, and I didn't tell you this, my "hardware expert" geek friend has boosted his Wi-Fi router's power and I have managed to log on to his Internet connection from 3 miles away(I had line of sight to his ariel and was above him):D
