What do you think, I purchased a Philips DVDR985 recorder via Sears. The service plan cost $ 140. for 2 yrs that includes :

Unlimited service and no cost on parts.

No lemon guarantee ( If more than 3 repairs within 12 mths)

Product replacement (If cover product cannot be fixed)

    Powersurge protection

I was even told it includes the remote control.

I've purchased these plans in the past for other equipment and never had to use them. Are they a waste of money? For instance my HP 722 deskjet printer, it's a workhorse and has never needed the service plan. Is the DVDR985 a workhorse?

    Thanks for your input

What price is the Philips DVDR985? Sometimes it is better not to have a guarantee as most things do not to go wrong these days and technology moves on, so the $140 will go towards a new set.
Saying the above I have a top of the range video recorder which I use a lot and I mean a LOT, I took a 5 year grantee out on it which was around a 5th of the price of a new one. One call out in 5 years and I will nearly have made the guarantee money back.
