Expert advice needed

Okay, I am about to take the plunge into the big world of DVD recorders, but to be honest have not got a clue. I have resorted to looking at the reviews on Amazon and the following look promising. Looking to spend up to around £300.

Sony RDRHXD560S 80GB HDD DVD

...or

Pioneer DVR-440HX-S 80GB HDD DVD

...or for a bit more

Sony RDRHXD860S 160GB HDD HDMI DVD

I know what HDD is, and the bigger the better in terms of recording time, but HDMI is a new one to me. A lot of reviews I have come across seem quite dated. Some features of these recorders I understand, other are a bit of a mystery.

I would really appreciate any advice. To be honest I am not really after anything all singing all dancing. I like the sound of time-shift recording, simple to use would be ideal, we have a Sony DVD camcorder so to be able to play these would be great. Multi-region playback would be handy as we do get some DVDs from the US.

We have a Panasonic LCD tv, a couple of years old if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance for any advice.
:D
