Having finally organised a rear centre for my set up I have been hunting down es/ex dvds to put it all to work I am, however struggling. I've typed this into my search engine to no avail and am currently making do with Austin Powers. I have heard that gladiator can be bought with an ex soundtrack, but the copy I borrowed was only 5.1. If anyone has any recommendations of specific titles or suggestions where I should look I would much appreciate it. Thanks, Fred
Rush hour, 1, and 2. Terminator region 1, Toystory 2, region 1. Highlander Immortal, region 1 Spoony.
Gladiator Reg 1 is EX/ES. Reg 2 is supposed to be EX/ES and the original release said ES on the backcover but the re-released cover does not. Kevb and I did an investigation the other evening (he has the original release of Gladiator R2, I have the re-release) and if it is ES, it doesn't seem to be flagged as such. It could be that it is and there's no flag, or it could just be regular 5.1. Anyway, on to others that haven't been mentioned: The Evil Dead Ltd Edition is ES Matrix Final Destination 2 will be ES (not sure whether Discrete or Matrix) E.T. is EX/ES Matrix (not flagged on Reg 2/4) Monsters Inc is EX Cast Away Reg 1 is ES/EX Check the regions at www.dvdcompare.net as there is sometimes a difference between regions into what is provided. Also note that the vast majority of DD5.1EX DVDs are not flagged as such, even though they are.
Ah of course - Stargate Ultimate Edition! How could I forget that 6.1 ES one! Top, top soundtrack. It blew me away!
Prefer the Dolby flavour myself...though I don't have that particular disc...though I will be giving HERO a spin in the ES mode sometime today. apparantly, it's a full bit rate disc...
I'm not a blind DTS fanatic either, as you know, but you have to hear the Stargate UE DTS track to believe it Bri. I only have a phantom rear and it was used fully throughout. Things flying about EVERYWHERE, and lots of awesome bass. It's a fantastic soundtrack. I'm scared of full bitrate DTS to be honest 1,536Kbps just seems too much to me The DTS piano trailer that's at the start of a lot of DTS disks is full bitrate and it always makes me jump
So how about we do a "loan" trade...? You lend me Stargate in 6.1 so I can hear what you're on about and I'll lend you Hero so you can blow your speakers up?
I just can't lend out DVDs, Bri. They're like children - I worry about them too much while they're away from home Besides, holding out for the extended cut of Hero. Don't wanna ruin that experience
Was only joking mate...BTW, the Taken box set has been mixed in Dolby Digital Surround Ex as well. Actually got it on now as a bit of background noise...just running through the TV though as I'm at work at the moment. The army's good in it provides the basics...a TV. I brought my own DVD player in and there defo IS NOT any surround sound. (I could always let you have one of my kids while I look after your Stargate disc...the 15 year old is quite good and dosen't moan much... )
I watched the first couple of episodes of Taken and didn't think much of it. I hear there's a big squirrel or something in one episode though - I missed that I prefer kids to be foetal - less hassle then
SG you muppet order Hero now!!! The director's cut will be months and months off if it comes out at all. The film is too good to miss and another 20 minutes would make it too long anyway, the pacing on the theatrical version is perfect anyway. The sound track is hands down the best I have ever heard... STUNNING!!
