    Anyone using this card?

Is it totally silent, or just........quiet?

I'm always weary of silent GPUs, especially the recent power hungry beasts.

If you are looking for a silent solution I recommend investigating further with larger heatsinks, large slow rotating fans and a decent case that channels the air flow well.

The Antec P180 is a good choice, not as a HTPC though, as it is a midi-tower.

I've just ordered the Zalman 160B (my first none tower HTPC, my 3rd HTPC). So, I'm really trying to get this one HD and as silent as possible, without water cooling (cba with water).

The nvidia cards manufactured by Gigabyte with silentpipe are good, I have one.

read this review.... skip to conclusion if you wish. I have heard Gigabyte are bringing out silentpipe3 for use with the card you require.

    http://tomshardware.co.uk/2006/06/02/graphics_card_quiet_uk/
"Silent-Pipe II consistently proved better than a standard active fan cooler in every scenario, and kudos to Gigabyte for engineering that."

    hope this helps. :smashin:

That review is for the silentpipe technology more than the card, gigabyte will be doing the card you need with the same technology, they may do already.

I have the 640MB GTS version

And when not playing games (EG, Just surfing Net, Watching DVDs) the GFX card is silent, my Whole PC is silent thats using 1 80MM Exhaust fan, 90MM Zalman 9500 CPU Cooler, and a Corsair 120MM Power Supply

No fan on motherboard as it was optional on my EVGA board.

When playing games obviously it speeds up and makes noise however your not bothered as you have the volume cranked up

All in all ive got a very powerful very quiet HTPC

I'm currently selling a 6800 Gigabyte "Silent Pipe" card, so I agree with you. If they do a 8800 version, I'll deffo be taking a look at it ;)

Although I don't know how well all that extra heat, that comes with the extra power will be handled? The 6800 never missed a beat, but thats not to say that an 8800 will be just as efficient. I'll wait for some reviews.

If anyone sees any reviews could they post the links here please?

Apparently, these cards, in SLI need 1000w PSU for serious gaming!!!!!

    Yep Vista Home Premium

And with the new drivers all my problems have gone, before the latest i was getting the driver not responding error in some games and in Power DVD when playing Blu Ray (Ripped To Hard Drive)

I use TheaterTek for DVD playback they just bought out 2.5 Vista compatible version and the quality on DVD playback is superb thats with using FDFShow for scaling the DVD 2X and using Blur and Noise reduction

All connected to my new Panasonic 37" PX70 plasma looks great

P.S if you have not got your DVD playing sotware theatertek is on offer for $40 ($30 off) with the release of 2.5 and its a big improvement over Power DVD and WMP for DVD playback well worth the purchase

I might actually be upgrading to a GTX soon myself, EVGA give you 3 months from date of purchase to upgrade to a faster card and they will give you 100% purcahse price back, the R600 is due in may and the GTX is bound to go down so i should get a free upgrade ive got just over 2 months yet before my 3 months is up
