In order to unlock new courses, characters and items you need to play match play (under the challenge mode menu). Each time you win a match you should receive a new item and certain matches (those with a star underneath them on the match select menu) will award you points to be promoted to the next tier (which unlocks new courses and somtimes caddies).

It does take a fair amount of time to progress though as I've had the game for 3 months now and I've still to unlock the final course.

always chose the courses that have gold stars available. once you get the stars you go up a level.

you don't get to play 18 holes straight for quite a while

If you go to single course, you can play 18 holes on any unlocked course.

Challenge mode has 6 tiers. At a new game, you can only see 1. When you complete every tournament/match with a star on a tier, you will unlock the next course/tier. Sometimes, there will be no visible stars, so just complete the non-starred ones and starred ones should appear. When you go up a rank, a new course is available. It gets tricky from course 3 on.

If you have completed a tier you will still have 3 matches available on that Tier however they will not have any prizes or stars on the selection screen, instead they will be labeled with 'Open Tournament' or 'Open Match', so push the up direction to move to the next tier. Please note that you do not have to win all the items to move to the next tier just a certain number of the star matches.

Contary to what Chris has said there are also more than 6 tiers, as I'm on 7 and I can see up to 9, plus it's possible that there are more than that as moving up a tier doesn't always give you access to a new course (sometimes it just gives you access to the long/reverse tee).

I had the US version and that only had 6 so I assumed the UK only had 6.

I only have the US version myself and to my knowledge the only difference between the the US and UK version is a name change.

And the music is different. Plus they call the Sand Trap a Bunker and the area around the green a Collar.

Ahh so that explains why sony decided to release the psp so late in europe they wanted to make sure that they had time for such important changes :D

A bit off topic but has anyone tried ad-hoc multiplayer between "Hot Shots Golf" (US) and "Everybodys Golf" (UK)...... I'm guessing it wouldn't work but you never know.
