...a film comes along that affects your life. For me, first there was Star Wars A New Hope...then there was Superman. Then I grew up and Shawshank had the same effect.

Now there's Million Dollar Baby. I won't disrespect this film by trying to review it here. If you love film - see it. No explosions, violence only in the boxing ring...just a brilliant story brilliantly told.

Go see this - today. You won't regret it.

If this film is sketchy mate, then I'm the proverbial monkeys uncle. The acting is superb (Hilary S-w- ank in particular)...has comedy, tragedy, and the 2 hours flew past.
Takes you through almost every available human emotion in that time...I was sucked into the screen.

Female Rocky it isn't. I'm saying no more so's not to spoil it.

dts borg...I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'll be seeing this again at least another once before the long wait for the DVD...

I did not mean the film is sketcy, I meant I did not have any info on the film and what it was about. A basic story line sybopsis would be good so I can see if it is the sort of film I would like to see. The only thing I have seen on it is the tv adverts and that dont give a lot away!
Thats whay I asked, what is it about?

My apologies...it's one of those films where you don't really want to know to much about before you go in - believe me.
The story revolves Clint Eastwood who is a boxing trainer. His prize fighter leqaves for another camp when eastwood won't give him a shot at the title...In comes Hilary Sw-ank, a 31 year old hillbilly with a love for boxing.
Shae asks Eastwood to take her on...he refuses, but is convinced to do so by Morgan Freeman, who we find out used to be a fighter of eastwoods.
Needless to say, he takes her on, but to say any more would really spoil it. Sorry. I didn't know anymore than that when I watched it, and I'm really glad I didn't.

Well worth a watch or 2 as I've already pointed out...really is and emotional rollercoaster ride for the whole 2 hours.

Your every emotion is stretched to its limits. The boxing theme is just a backdrop for greater themes to think about. The less you know about the film before you see it the better.

It was not what I was expecting.

    It is a stunning film.

I thought the trailer was quite weak, although I have been swayed by lots of positive comments on this forum as well as others.

Think I'll definitley go and see this with the missus this weekend! :)

Its best to know as little as possible about this film, Id heard it was going to be good, i even started to read this months Total Film review of it but told me not to read the review and just GO! so I did and was blown away, outstanding peice of cinema- the best ive seen in a long time.

If this thing doesnt win big @ the oscars then I dont know what deserves to win big @ the oscars, 10/10 for everything in this film- acting, direction, narrative, score, lighting- its all just superb!!

I watched thos the night before last. Now I haven't seen "The Aviator" but I just cannot see it being better than this. A great story, superb acting, excellent directing, casting and script. And no "feelgood" ending. The best movie I have seen since Shawshank.

I don't think you should wait for DVD or else you will be adding to that thread about those films you wish you saw at the cinema!!

It doesn't seem like one of those films that need to be seen at the cinema though. I mean I could be wrong, but it seems like more of a drama than anything else?

That is correct...but IMO, you're depriving youreself for no apparent reason...it dosen't really matter where it's seen, it just needs seeing...and the sooner the better... :smashin:

I know, I know. I really wanted to see it once all you forumites starred raving about it. It then won all those Oscars too. Unfortunately I just don’t have the time to go to the pictures at the moment :(

Saw this on Friday (wanted to see it last week but Cineworld stopped it only to bring it back after the Oscars) fantastic film!
Definitely recommend it to anyone! The pace and narration is similiar to Shawshank (not just cos Freeman is in it!) and it is just as good as that i think!

Excellent charachter driven, emotional rolercoaster. S**** is excellent and you've gotta take your hat off to Clint... at 74 he aint half doing bad!!!

    cheers Rob

I suppose it depends on what you get out of going to the cinema....personally I love going to the cinema and soaking up the whole experience of seeing an excellent film...of which there are very few!

Other just like the crash bang wallop of it all that they may not get at home.

I don't think it was up there with shawshank. It was a good film but i do think that certain parts of the story were dragged out a little too long, taking away some of the emtional impact for me

Nice to hear my fav poem "inisfree" and the name that clint gave to the baby (An old irish song)
