(Reuters) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Monday that euro zone members must be prepared to cede control over certain policy domains to European institutions if the bloc is truly to overcome its debt crisis and win back foreign investors. Merkel says euro members must be prepared to cede sovereignty | Reuters

So there we have it. The cards are now on the table for all to see. It's a USE (United States of Europe) under German domination. My god, the sooner Britain gets out of this the better.

Potentially we could start to see conflicts.

So there we have it.
And there it's been since the Treaty Of Rome was signed 56 years ago.
Maybe the emphasis on Germany has changed a bit but the principle was always there - the EEC was meant to be the U S of E.

Yep and this is what's known as a "beneficial crisis". Another chance to tighten up the EU ratchet.

Germany only needs to look at itself to see how it'll never work. It's now 23 years since German re-unification and still the east is nowhere near parity with the west. GDP per capita, earnings per head are all much lower in the east. Unemployment is higher there too and many former residents have left to seek jobs in the west. That's despite massive ongoing investment & subsidy.

Quite right. It's always been the intention to form a USE and this is another step toward that goal.

... Not that I agree with it. IMO we should stay clear of this gigantic bureaucratic beast.

I didn't realise that the TOR included the eventual creation of USE. Has anyone told the French? - dont think that they would go along with it. Can see them having at least 3 referendums before they got the 'right' result.

Strong socialists want to fund their habit. Its unlikely they would ever want to leave and certain that they would want us to. The huge farm subsidies are one of the key reasons for them to remain in. They can tax their citizens and give the money to the farmers. That makes a weird economic sense to them as they subsidise their agriculture, just as we once subsidised our industry.

While the Treaty of Rome was the goal, that was on the proviso that every country contributes and pulls their way.

That is not happening and Germany is having to fund the project (to keep its industry moving). Sure, the Germans have had enough! And Merkel's response is to read us the riot act and remind us that central government is all part of the deal!

Excellent news .At last we shall start learning a thing or two instead of constantly sticking our heard in the sand. The Nazis lost the war but good Germans have won the peace and we shall play a very prominent part at the table.Whats the new national anthem going to be?:smashin:

She's an osti (East German) herself, after her family moved their shortly after she was born. She's also a former propaganda chief of the Free German Youth, the Communist regime's youth movement. She's kinda fuzzy on that part of her life though.

It's so verbose that it probably doesn't actually say so, but all of its inventors were quite clear about the intention.
The people of all the countries have been told, but what they think and say doesn't matter.

It goes some thing like this: "Deutschland, Deutschland über alles" ........... :D.

or
Europe ,Europe above everything,
Above everything in the world,
When, for protection and defence, it always
takes a brotherly stand together.
From the Thames to the Volga,
From the Baltic to the Meditarreanean
 Europe,Europe above everything,
Above everything in the world!

European women,European loyalty,
European wine and European song
Shall retain in the world
Their old beautiful chime
And inspire us to noble deeds
During all of our life.
 European women, European loyalty,
European wine and European song!

Personally i prefer this song sung by Billy Brag

Or perhaps it will be the horst wessel.

That well-known German folk song beloved of the marching soldiers as they broke into new frontiers.

"Oh, we're marching on Pretoria..."

Oops - wrong one. :)

Ode To Joy is still the best and is without lyrics. Best of all - it was composed by a German :smashin:.

they won the war .The USA did very well out of the peace but
both Germany and Japan did remarkably so given they were so vanquished
