They also want to be able to raise direct taxes for EU, they are drunk with power.

What is the obsession with 'raising taxes'?

They must save the plan at all costs. Why would someone not want to save the plan is there anything conceivably more deserving than harmonisation, model efficiency, homogeneity and neatness of purpose ?

Do I detect a slight hint of sarcasm in that post?

No, I love Bureaucrats, but they should be kept in their cages.

Some of the demands, as insufferable as they are seem fairly reasonable. Ability to re-assign budgets (although open to abuse), taking a surplus from one year to sure up another (but open to abuse) and reassessment mid term when a new parliament is sworn in (as priorities will have changed).

Could just end up with all the money going to CAP.

The good old Guardian didn't print anything about this at all, not even the press feed without CiF, the sticking one to Cameron must be well and truly overshadowed by how shady the EU is, which must play against their editorial policy. Best hope it just goes away. Considering they had a live blog and numerous articles about the same budget a few weeks back this is rather depressing.
