Views/reviews on this new game for the Gamecube.
I wish I could buy it!!!
But 700 squid on an Orange Evo3 for mountain biking fetish has put a stop on all games!
This one is going on the Christmas list.
The general review average was around 85-90%. Similar mechanics to Resident Evil/Tomb Raider, but with a lot of variation in weaponry and magics.
Supposed to be extremely impressive in the beginning then tapering off towards the end. Many members had the game on US import a while ago and all pretty much enjoyed it.

A good game that will keep you playing to the end. Has a few flaws though and some levels are clearly better than others. It plays very different to Resident Evil but has some scary moments, one in particular that will make you jump. Insanity effects are interesting but become annoying after you've seen the all.
I completed this a few months ago and will most likely never play it again. I do recommend it but it only really picks up after the first few levels so you'll have to stick with it. The story and voice acting is the best I've ever seen though.
Got my copy today played it for around 40 mins so far and I'm quite enjoying it. Shame the cut scenes are done by the game engine. Rather than being FMV. Weird thing about them too is the game plays widescreen but the cut scenes are in a 4:3 letter box. Is this normal or is my TV not switching aspect ratio proberly. TV switches to widescreen when I power the cube on.

I Thought so just seems a bit strange, when some of the in game moments are 2:35:1 or there abouts.
The even stranger thing is that if you play the game in 4:3 mode on a 4:3 TV, the cut-scenes are letterboxed .
all i can say is WOW!!! What a game... only started playing it properly last night but wow its fantastic i think its slightly creepier than resi evil (better use of sound). graphics are stunning but why oh why don't the cut scenes fill the screen instead of being in that nasty little box in the centre.

nope I got into the second chapter when I had to go out and pick my girlfriend up... without saving... doh!! I'll give it a proper go tonight. Does it matter which artifact the Pious picks up at the end do they all do the same to him? I love the idea, its very filmic jumping to flashbacks and things a lot of thought went into this game.
I figured out a couple of minutes before I stopped playing as well that if you target monsters heads, one hit takes them off and leaves them standing there and easy to kill.
Yes this does have a direct baring on the difficulty of the rest of the game. One artefact results in easier enemies to kill while another results in a much more difficult challenge. I wouldn't want to ruin the fun by telling which is which though .
when I get to that bit this afternoon I'll look at all three before I pick one up then! I'd gone for green before. I thought Pious bought it a little early, thought he was a good character.
Ho ho ho!! You've got a real surprise in store if you've only just had Pious die!!
I went for the Blue hat type object with Pious. Not sure if thats good or not!!
Just entered the second floor of the C20th house.
Now i've started using spells i'm really getting into it.
Go for the green object I wish I had. Particularly when my sanity meter bottomed out and my characters head fell off then he turned into a zombie.
Nooooooo Kev, you shouldn't have told him . Ah well, I suppose it's no secret now. The Green Artefact results in the easist challenge because enemies only sap your Sanity Meter. Blue artefact is next difficult (enemies sap your magic meter) with Red being the hardest of all. Unfortunately I chose Red my first time around and it took weeks to complete.
it's hard enough on green, which I chose! Just started chapter five with the fat bloke and boy is the flintlock a load of rubbish. I see what you mean about chapter three Kev absolutely brilliant atmoshpere, poor anthony. But why do the big bads with lightening bolts look like the ones from Half-life.

Any don't worry Kev with the bad guys constantly draining my sanity, my head arms and torso have all been lopped off at one point or another oh and at one point the screen flashed off making my think the cube had crashed but as soon as I got up to have a look at it it popped back on. And no it's not a dodgy scart lead!
Scariest moment I've ever encountered in a game.
Does make you jump a bit, doesn't it!! The other place where I leapt about 3 feet in the air was the bonethief smashing through the stain glass window when playing as Maximillian.
er stuck on the chapter with maximillian Roivas, killed the beasty with the rune inside, found the secret room, got the letters but where do I go now, i take it the green rune on the wall has something to do with it but no amount of reveal invisible spells seem to do anything!Help!
EDIT: Ignore that it disappeared itself... what sick puppy put in that end of game message tho... truly twisted!!
You have to use the reveal spell aligned with all three coloured runes. One after the other.
why would you think to do that tho, there's nothing to logically push you in that direction? worked on the dresser draw as well. I can't remember having been this entertained/engrossed by a game in a long, long time! May have to go back to resident evil to make eternal darkness last that bit longer.
There was a sign on the wall near the hidden door that pointed you to green being stronger than another colour and another colour being stonger that that colour but not as strong as green. If you know what I mean.
I enjoyed this level with maximillian Roivas greatly still not as good as chapter three with poor anthony.
I still feel sorry for him
Taught him for being to be nosy though. Still he was in a mess by the end of the chapter and I did feel sorry for him
Im back in the temple in Cambodia in 1983 at the mo which is quite fun.
I don't want this game to end.
that's why I'm going back to resi evil and mario (after I play Eternal tonight of course ) still got another three or four worthy contenders out this month for the cube... damn them!
by the temple do you mean the one where ella the dancer was running around in 1100AD?
Yep it's changed a bit since then though. Now it features posion gas as well as Crushing walls even bigger swinging blades, zombies, blow darts and two new supernatural freaky things one of which acts like a flasher in a raincoat.
Haven't finshed it yet though.
next time you play as alex go to the autopsy details and listen to Max go on about the horror, the madness and so on. It's well funny and goes on for ages!
I heard that the game is a stright port from the N64.
Is this true?
Has anyone played both versions?, is their any differences??
