    Hi,

Saw this last night at cinema, thought it was well good. Kinda made you think about the situation, etc. The gun-taka fight scenes were pretty smart. If you like a story and guns and martial arts, go and see this.

It was derivative, cliched and contrived.

On the other hand, I liked it when he hit that guy.

Seeing it again through the week, I expect.

Watched it on friday last week and I have to say two things:
    1) Christian Bale appeared to base his character on Keanu Reeves in the Matrix, and by that I mean Keanu, not Keanu's character.:D
    2) They never let the plot get in the way of what was essentially one of the most stylish and visually stunning action movies ever.

Wasn't an especially good film, but I'll be pre-ordering this and watching it again at the cinema soon.:smashin: :smashin:
So I guess that makes me shallow.

    Me too!

Sorry to resurrect a relatively old thread, but just watched this on DVD & could n't resist saying how good it was.

I've not enjoyed a Sci-Fi/Action movie so much since the first time I watched the Matrix.

Tho the Matrix first brought in wire work, to a wide Western audience at least, the fight scenes in Equilibrium are just as good, if not better, actually make a martial art of guns.

I thought Christian Bale was good - had to act like Keanu due to the character & plot (drugged emmotionless). IMO the film compares well to the Matrix, only loses out terms of effects & in plot, simpler than the Matrix's.

A shocking waste of Sean Bean's talents tho. Why did he bother?

Saw this on the weekend and thought it was really boring and couldn't wait for it to end. Fight scenes were great though.

I like it, saw it on a rented DVD. Didn't do to well at the box-office, but if you like Matrix-like movies I would recommend it.

My main complaint about the film was the sword fight at the end. It was far too short :( A slightly longer fight would have been a nice contrast to all the gun play.

Not a bad action film I guess, but after a friend at work had raved about the fight scenes I was expecting slightly more.

Not as good as Matrix, better than Matrix: Reloaded IMO. That gun-kata they learnt was very cool!

My type of film all the way.

How to slaughter hoardes of armed men without sweating just has to be an oscar winning thing.

    Great entertainment.

Yeah, but the director does explain, on the DVD, that we all know the outcome so why drag out the fight? Frankly I thought it was much better for being shorter.

Can't understand why the film did so badly.

When you look at how long the scenes took from when he goes into action to the end, it's actually quite well timed and full on. I think maybe a few more action scenes throughout the film may have added to the 'Matrixness' of it all.

However I'm not complaining as I loved the film anyway.

Same here - I watched it again on the weekend, then twice more listening to the commentaries, & was surprised when the director said it had been slated by the critics.

I don't know how well or poorly it did at the box office, but hopefully video/DVD sales & rentals will make up any shortfall.

Glad to read all of the positive things said here- I think it's a great piece of work myself.

Not since my childhood have I gasped (with joy!) the way I did whilst watching the Gun-Kata scenes... Reminded me of the feeling I had when I discovered Jackie Chan flicks...

Rottentomatoes does make it sound like garbage though, but the negative reviews usually boil down to either 'This film is unoriginal!!' or 'This film requires you to suspend disbelief, but I didn't try to, so I hated it!!'... And personally, I don't think either of those arguments are strong enough to warrant a nasty tirade. It's fair to say that the film's production values are slightly lower than they should be, but the action, acting and storyline are all solid enough on their own terms...

I wish there were more films like it...
