Equalizer for Ipod? Can't reduce the bass!

I listen to an Ipod through my stereo (a 1970's Lafayette). I listen to a lot of Old radio shows that have TERRIBLE sound quality and usually require ALL the bass removed.

The problem is that 1. The stereo does not remove all of the bass. 2. Ipods have TERRIBLE equalizers that do not remove bass, nor correctly transfer Equalizer presets from Itunes. (I also do not have the time to re-encode the MP3s with better sound.) Thus some of the MP3s are alomst incomprehensible (if I listened through a computer, I COULD remove all of the bass with Itunes.)

Is there a "pre-equalizer" that I could buy (to put between the Ipod and stereo) that would remove the sound problems?

    Thanks!
