Hi all, my PJ is great with 2D but with 3D its really jerky when characters are moving around and it gets really mixed up with itself. Is there any setting i should/should not be using to sort this?

    Cheers

What media are you using for 3D, sky, 3d blu-ray, sbs files?

Has it always been like this or just started to do it? Have you tried different glasses?

When you say 3D bluray is it a real disc or ISO. What are you using to play it if you turn 3D off does it play okay in 2D?

If it's an ISO and not on a local disk to the player then that can cause issues.

Also in the projector menu under info make sure you're seeing 3D signal and not playing it in 2D and converting it to 3D because that can make things look a real mess as I found out after playing with the settings and forgetting to reset them.

    Using an Oppo 93
    Switch to 2d looks fine.
Legit tesco bought copy of john carter.
Pj shows it as 3d so everything there is default.

I have said this before on here. I too think the 3D on the 9000 is not great. Personally I dont watch 3d and am not bothered as the 2d on this PJ is amazing. I watched sky SBS and 3D BD and same effect of it looking really false and jerky, cant handle motion in 3d at all. Maybe its cross talk?! Maybe we both have a bad unit?? Not a problem for me as I dont intend on watching 3d anyway, just a fad in my eyes.

Having watched 3D now, i don't think its a real necessity, however this pj is supposed to be good with 3D. Having scanned the net, it looks like there is an update for the firmware but it's a right fiddle to install.

That is the first thing I noticed after being used to the Panasonic AT5000.
I looked at Ice Age 3D BD and the opening sequence was very jerky.
Bit like the effect you get in movie making when you get the odd / even field order wrong!

I hope things can be improved somehow!

I have to say that I've never had anything but smooth playback in 3D.
John Carter I have on bluray and played it using my PS3 and it was perfect as far as I could see and I consider myself pretty picky. I've watched other stuff and it's been fine too.

I spoke with epson yesterday and basically they want me to try a different bd player through a different hdmi input and see if that makes things better.

Trouble is I don't have anything else that will play 3d bd....

Illusion, what settings do do have set on your bd player and the 9000?

The BD player is a PS3 so there's not much special there I have 24hz mode on automatic, Deep colour on Auto, RGB Full Range on.

I'm using a 15M cable on HDMI 1 because my wireless HD is broken right now.

Projector is default settings, when checking the info menu while the movie is playing it shows to be playing 1080p 24Hz framepacked 3D if I recall correctly.

Just been having a play and it seems the poor picture may be due to the sharpness settings i had it on, will view more later to be sure and do some before and after testing.

There is a standard sharpness setting which i had set on on highest to get the most out of 2d with the advanced sharpness thick line/ thin line and horizontal and vertical settings a notch up from default. Those worked well with 2d but not 3d, maybe there is just too much processing to do?

Anyhow with a quick look, setting these all to default seems to make the picture much better...more testing later!

:blush:Soooooo bit embarrassed really, looks like the issues were to do with source material (John Carter) being not really 3d and the sharpness. Have a copy of Bolt in 3D and there is a massive improvement, in actual fact the 3d really is worth having in this animated film, i preferred it to the 2d except for the brightness issues...well maybe not an issue but I'm so used to eye popping brightness with 2d the lack of it in 3d make you wonder if its worth it, but it would appear that if the film is real 3d not converted it is, with animated anyway. Will have to check out a non animated film in real 3d, see if its worth it.

Do you mean your bluray wasn't the 3D version or that it's a studio converted movie.

Animated movies are always by far the best usually.

Hugo is the best example of a 3D movie I've seen so far.

It is a 3d BD but not a native 3d film.

Bolt looks much better, though im sure im seeing heavy cross talk in some scenes.

Can some one do a test for me if you have Bolt 3d to hand?

In the early scene where the 2 cats go to taunt Bolt in his camper van, as they walk to the camper just before they jump up on the roof, there is significant shadowing to the sides of the black cat's legs. If i pause the scene, and put a hand over one eye the shadow on one side of the leg disappears, then swap eyes, the shadow the other side disappears. Is this cross talk? A pal has suggested i may need a remote 3d emitter as my rooms so black my glasses may not be getting the good signal.

    Cheers

I've done some 3D tests lately and haven't seen any issues at all. Watched some 3D movies, cartoons, and even the opening ceremony of the olympics looked great!

There is a slight decrease in brightness - I find the original Epson glasses the best with that.

The IR signal bounces off the white screen so should be no problem, even if the room decoration is a bit dark.
Crosstalk does not usually get worse in an incremental way. If the IR is weak then the glasses lose lock and you will see exactly what you see on the screen without them (100%crosstalk). Should be quite noticeable and will go on and off as you move your head a bit to see if the signal is sufficient.

Did you find anything interesting about software versions? Has Epson managed to improve the motion on 3D on recent updates?
