    Hi All,

As title really, are these still good projectors (as they will come onto the second hand market soon)? How would ine compare to a Z2 for instance?

    Cheers

I had, until last week, a Yamaha LPX500 which is a tweaked TW100.

I also had a play with the Z2 for a few hours.

I would say go for a Z2 over the TW100 unless you can get the TW100 for significantly less. The TW100 is an excellent LCD projector, however in my brief testing the Z2 didn't look much different to me. I might give a very slight edge to the LPX/TW on picture, but would consider these factors when buying...

If you got a Z2 it would be new and have a full warranty, it is possible to tweak the service menus if you have a VB problem (can't do that on the TW), it is quieter and it has a great lens shift facility.

    Cheers

    Hi Marc,

Thanks for that reply. Interesting copmparison. Only really would consider a TW100 if it was going for a good price - what would you think would be fair for a 2nd hand one in the current market place?

    Cheers

Looking at prices in the classifieds & generally, about £1k I'd say for a good TW100.

I would put PQ on the TW100 above the Z2, has a smoother feel and better depth of picture (otherwise quite similar) probably down to the faroudja processing. Around a grand sounds right for a good condition second hander with no duff pixels and all the bits and bobs...

But you stated in the mamoth Ivojo thread:

    Going off the Z2 :D

    If I had to choose between a good 2nd hand TW100 (circa £1k) & a Z2, I'd certainly opt for the Epson.

    So we're in agreement ;)

My only fear if you went for the TW100 over the Z2 is if you got a unit that suffered from VBs. On the Z2 you can get into the service menu and have a shot at fixing/improving them. On the TW100 you cannot. As far as I can tell the info has never been uncovered.

I'd rather pay more for no VBs. Ultimately that is why Messiah and myself got rid of the LPX500. And we both ended up with DLPs and are both VERY happy at the switch!

So you had VB on your LPX then?

    But you said recently:

    :D

You are a search demon!

But you missed in my for sale thread I also admitted to VB...

My early testing, when I posted that, suggested I didn't have them. I spent hours picking favourite scenes and it appears non had light backgrounds!

But yes when I actually sat down and watched movies, in certain scenes, I saw them and they annoyed me. They weren't bad at all, but they were there and that was enough!

The good thing is I sold on my LPX after 5 months at a loss of £40 (I love eBay!) and bought a HT1000 for £50 less than the sale price of the LPX.

    Very happy!

    Cheers

    More a "memory" man.

No offence intended, just never recalled you saying you also suffered from VB on the LPX.

Looks like you did well - HT1000 certainly doesn't have VB :smashin:

.....DCI Kramer is now finished for the day :D

    DCI Kramer (lol!),

Yeah we're definitely in agreement, a theoretical grand for a second hand TW100 or £1450 for a new Z2 and £550 for an iScan Ultra (to make up for the lack of Faroudja), is a no brainer in anyone's books!!!
